Ryan, did you calculate out you efficiency with these grains? How about with grain from AHS?

haven't calculated efficiency for this one, im sure im at around 45 maybe 50. The most I have gotten from this shop after taking a rolling pin to the grains is 60%. With AHB I have gotten two batches at the 80%, and my barley wine with 20 pounds of grain I got 72%

It's obvious you new users are joining just to promote this store. That is SPAM.
If you wish to take part in the forum then do so but do not post spam.
I'm all for free speech but not joining to promote a business.

I can assure you Jamie doesn't work for the Winemaker's Shop. He's an avid homebrewer from the Arlington, TX area and the President of Knights of the Brown Bottle Homebrewer's Club. An apology from him for the Winemaker's Shop wouldn't have done much good since he's nothing more than a customer. Of course this is also my first post so take it for what it's worth.

In defense of the Winemaker's shop I haven't made a purchase there since January but on that visit they went above and beyond, and the visits before that left me with no complaints.

When I was moving to Guam and found that the closest homebrew supplier could only be reached by boat or plane, Chris from the Winemaker's shop stayed on the phone with me while I loaded the truck for my move and simultaneously gave him a laundry list of ingredients that I needed. I had to send someone else to pick the items up but I was told that when he arrived the 6 months worth of brewing ingredients that I had asked for were already bagged up and waiting at the front counter. The quick customer service on their part allowed everything I purchased to arrive at my house just in time to be loaded onto the mover's truck and be sent on its way to Guam. Nevermind the exposure to TB that put me on meds that don't allow me to drink until Christmas... (totally unrelated to the Winemaker's Shop)

Oh, hey, look, another first-poster with gleaming reviews of the shop. Hmmm...hey mods, any way to check out whether those three new users are all posting from the same IP?

No kidding. IP Check.

For those who favour The Winemaker Shop please keep in mind that despite your positive experience with this business the OP had a negative one and in no way does your opinion negate his. The dissatisifed consumer, albeit only one, has spoken and has been heard.

For those members of the homebrew club mentioned earlier, please keep in mind that if this shop knows that you are a member in a club they may give you preferential treatment and the lone consumer may have been left to choke on whatever they gave him.

Complaints like these are often voiced in public forums aka word of mouth, internet etc. and therefore this thread doesn't make the OP gutless, whiney or any other negative adjective. It simply shows that he's PO'ed with being treated poorly at the said establishment.

IMHO if the shop owners were really standup individuals I think they should come forward and attempt to win back the OP's business by replacing his grains and take the $20-$30 hit (just like a restauranteur would if you had a crappy meal). If not, then they can sit back and absorb all the online criticism that may or may not be dished out in this thread and through word of mouth. I think at this point, it would make good business sense to try and save face and turn this negative experience into a positive one by giving the OP something to compliment The Winemaker Shop over.

So how about it? Would both parties agree to call a truce if the management replaces the grain?

But, hey, man, his crusher is right, and you're wrong.

Haven't used the Winemakers shop, so I cannot comment on them, but I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND HOMEBREW HQ !!! Kelly and the guys have always treated me with the highest quality of service. I feel like Norm walking into Cheers there. Hell, just today, had Kelly (the owner) walk over to me at the mill and told me that the crush didn't look fine enough, that I should run it back through. (I had already noticed it and was planning on it) That shows ya how dedicated they are to making sure everyone leaves happy, and comes back the same way!

Right, so I don't think anyone that has used grain from there could get anything over 70%, IMO. That is sad.

BTW, if I was reading this and was ever considering going to this shop and the owner had posted here, the resposnse I would have expected would go something like this:

I am sorry you had such a bad experience with the product we sold you and your visit to our shop. I can assure you this will never happen again. I work on ___ please come in, lets take a look at that crush, discuss/fix the problem, and get you the grains for your next beer on the house. You are a valued customer and we want to keep your business.

Cost: profit on $15 of grain, at most $10...that loss will be made up for in profit on the original sale and one future sale...one future sale that stands to be lost

I really wish they where closer, I guess it might be worth the drive though. I might go out there on a day before rush hour.

Lemmie know if you ever make it out there Ryan. I'd love to meet up with ya and talk brew for a bit. If you are ever free on a weekend, gimmie a PM and we can double brew.

oh ya, that's got to be the next move.

It's really sad. The guy was obviously told about the thread and chose to respond this way. Really speaks volumes.

At least she had the ovaries to show up here and defend herself. She didn't hide behind several "satisfied customer" names.

And I can just as easily say that you're all on the same IP with no facts to prove it and just let the masses assume what they want. Seriously, that's a rather childish move.

We are all simply concerned that a LHBS that we have all had a great experience with is getting slammed with no one coming to their defense. Ryan has the right to voice his opinion and we're all just doing the same.

Orfy is a mod screw-ball. He can see your IP. Not too familiar with the internet, huh?

Yes, I know another new user. I am also a memeber of the KOBB. I was the first female member and have been a part of the homebrew community for almost 3 years. I have been involved in the Bluebonnet competition, The Celtic, I have entered the Iron Mash the last 3 years and I took a BJCP class.

I guess what is so surprising to me is all the anger and hostility. Most of the homebrewers I know are some of the most friendly people I know. They are also willing to give some advice to help in your progress as well as share a great beer with you. It is a community. No matter which homebrew shop you support it does not matter. Just remember to "Support your Local Homebrew Shop". Where would we be without them?

Ryan is a real member of the forum and not a spammer.
Joining up to just promote a store is spamming.

If you want to stay around, post and take part in the forum then Welcome.
If not your account will be banned for spamming.

You are welcome to stay and join the forum if that's what you want to do.

Honestly, the multiple posts from the same IP supporting this store really makes this shop look bad. I mean, really, really bad. They would have been far better off not posting at all and better off yet simply fixing the situation.

The earned this bashing. Hell, the worked hard for it.

Yeah, I almost had a boil over on my APA while I was reading and laughing at this, damn hot break at a bad time....

I bet that gives everyone loads of confidence

Head for the hills I say........;)

Hey SuperSpy,

Carry on posting and you'll become a border line member rather than a spammer.

Seriously, no problem with you guys taking part in the forum then giving your views on the store but just not spamming.
