I'm guessing my SWMBO is about to be upset

My response would have been "How many f***ing bass have those figurines caught you?"

I could also have asked how much money she won standing on those figurines... but I knew to drop it while the dropping was good. (I ran and fished in bass tournaments from 1999 to 2008 so I did win some, but not a lot of money from that Skeeter's deck.))

Here's a sort of mockup with the stand in the basement... this is not the cooler I'll be using, but the color is right.

Nice job. The first thing my SWMBO would say if I made it was what tool did you buy? She would not worry about the material cost as she knows there would be a power tool purchased somewhere along the line to make the stand.

Had I not built this at work I too would have had to buy tools. Luckily, the only tool I know I'll be buying is a couple of hole saws... we have them at work but they're used for carbon steel and I don't want to use them for my stainless.

Oh...boy you had to ask without searching didn't you? :) I'd duck if I were you.

Ok, I'll start the shenannagains.....

Searching Would Maybe Be Advisable.

Shirley Will Make Bad Applepies.

Slutty Women Make Bad Ambassadors.

LOL

Revvy, what's SWMBA? :drunk: ...And yes, I didn't use the search.

:rockin: Rockin dude. That's a SS milk can isn't it? Are you using that as your BK or what? What are you going to use that HF keg for (from your thread last week).

It's actually a SS olive oil can. I plan to use it as a HLT. I still don't know what the old keg will end up as.... it might be on the stand all polished up as either the MLT or BK....or it might stay as a chair in the brew room.

Damn, Revvy! <shakes head>

Shouldn't We Make Beer Outside?

And about that Brew Rig. I'd start planning some household fixups, or SWMBO presents, just in case. You KNOW she has placed a big mark in the wrong column on that one!

OK, well, while I appreciate all ya'all's concern about my dead stiff body and the equipment and all...we can all relax. SWMBO has seen it and asked how much I paid for it... I just told her that I made it. End of questions I guess.
<WHEW!>

Doubtful. More than likely, it has been filed into the photographic event memory logger that will be instantly recalled the next time a pet project of her's comes up.

Examples...

"You built that thing for your beer; so there is no reason you can't:
  • build a closet organizer for my shoes..."
  • build planter beds for the garden...."
  • build [insert item here] for my parents..."

My wife used to think I was completely useless with my hands until I started doing little pet projects and it went from "let's buy this" to "let's build this". If I had it to do all over again, I would have rather said I bought something and dealt with the temporary crap storm than to have claimed any skill at anything. :D

So what exactly is the reason for her objection? Is it the associated drinking or something else like the smell or mess?

My SWMBO saw right through the "I made it myself" excuse and asked what the total parts bill for my trashcan-o-rator build (in my sig) was. I was honest and her next question was a huge relief...she asked what a new kegorator would cost and when I told her, she said "and that only has one tap right?". I love that woman!

I fully expected the follow up, "and, what did building it yourself cost?", and was prepared to answer it honestly, and tell her what the casters cost. <grin>

I am doing home improvement chores with fewer gripes for a while too...

I just realized I forgot to answer an earlier question. Her objection to my brewing seems to be like a line from an old country song, "You must think I look bad with a smile, 'cause you haven't let me wear one in such a long, long while." She's not a happy type of person and it bugs her that I am. That and the fact that nothing on the honey-do list gets done when I'm brewing or otherwise engaged. Of course, that's likely anyway, I hate doing home improvment projects.

I love the title of the post, love the orignal poster's comments and love all the replies. Nice!!

For the guy building the bar and keezer in the dining room, just stain it to match the cabinets and she'll be happy (thats how i got away with mine).

My SWMBO, used to not ask further questions when i said "i built it myself" but like a previous poster stated, she is wising up to the fact that i buy a new power tool (or two) for every project i work on.

Updates...
I have been lucky enough to get a second one of the 15 gallon stainless steel "milk cans" for free. I've brought that home, plus some misc copper pipe fittings, and today my order for stainless locknuts and fittings came in. I'm hoping to try my hand at soldering the fittings to the cans tomorrow night. I should have some pictures to post after that.
This thing si coming together much faster than I had thought it might.

kklowell advice on soldering

make sure you have Harris stay clean liquid flux, I found some at my local "airgas" store I'll call around to local welding or supply shops to see if they carry that. i tried two other times with 2 different fluxes and the liquid stay clean was the only one that worked.

here: http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/en/Distributors.aspx type in your zip code and buy local I think my cost was $7 for flux and solder in a kit. I used the solder and flux and it worked out perfectly.
