I just broka a 6.5 gallon carboy on the floor in the family room. Good thing we have all tile floors, but the place smells like a Sierra Nevada Brewery. SWMOM will be pissed when she gets home in a few minutes.:(

Ugh, sorry man. That can't have been easy to clean up. If it weren't for all the glass, you could have just licked it all up, but...oh well. That's just the worst...you lose all the beer, and you lose a carboy, and you got a huge mess. Dang.

I carry my glass carboys around like I'm carrying the mona lisa. They scare me.

Sorry to hear it man. Good thing you are ok and not sliced up like a loaf of Wonderbread.

Time for a carboy hauler (and new carboy). Or better bottle!

that happened to me in the kitchen on the tile as well. But mine was empty and it was still a huge mess! Wife was out of town that week though. :)

I guess I'll have to sound taps.

Sometimes I have to chuckle to myself when someone says swmbo will be mad/pissed etc. It gets better after the first 25 years. reminds me of a joke ( to add a little light humor to this thread ) about 2 fisherman talking about their wives.
First one says..I'm thinking about getting a divorce, my wife hasn't said a word in 4 days.
Second guy says, sounds like a keeper for sure, not many around like her.

Sorry man! I take it you have no lacerations. Whew! That's the good side of this experience.

I see Better Bottles in your future!

I was going to say BB too, but then I wondered if they would break if dropped from a height full of liquid. Anyone ever dropped a BB full of liquid ?

Sorry to hear about the loss Beer. (and loss OF beer) Glad stitches weren't involved. (from the carboy at least, SWMBO may have other ideas. ;) )

Some people will say "Better Bottle", but I say "milk crates"!!

I love the crates, I never did thank you for that idea Bill. They still kind of suck to haul around, but it's a helluva lot better than hauling a wet carboy from point A to point B. :rockin:

Sorry to hear about your loss, our thoughts and prayers are with your beer.

So what happened with SWMBO? Did you get it all cleaned up in time? Or did she kick your a$$?

Sounds like a great experiment. I'll set it up and video it this weekend for posting on YouTube. I'm willing to take one for the team in this case. :p

bummer :(

all I gotta say is I love these

From BB: "Better-Bottle carboys are essentially unbreakable in normal use."

If it breaks they might replace it to keep the video off the net.:D

Those are pretty handy ... though the one I have shifts around a bit here and there.

I still prefer our BBs over glass carboys

Yeah, maybe, but I think dropping a full Better Bottle from counter height on a tile floor is what can happen in normal use (if it's wet and your hands are slippery).

I'll do this outside on a concrete slab with a 5 gallon BB full of water.

You are welcome. :D

Another benefit of using crates is if you remove the cradboard padding you can place them in a water bath without having to remove the carboy. I have one soaking now in a bin and a t-shirt wick to try to keep the temp down.:D

I can see the attraction of the nylon haulers, but I don't know how they would hold up in a continuous soaking like you can with a crate.

Now, don't wuss out... Spend six hours brewing an awesome AG with high IBUs and drop it. The experiment won't be the same with just water.

Nah, I can read about that here in the forum any time with a glass carboy. :D

Good Luck on your BB experiment Ed. I've thought about this, and I really thinkthe better bottle will crack/break over concrete. I can't wait to see the outcome on this.

Yep, we'll see how essentially "unbreakable" a Better Bottle is this weekend or sooner. I have faith in the Better Bottle coming through.

HBT version of Myth Busters coming atcha soon!

As well as working with them on their sides on a rough concrete driveway while cleaning them out. :mug:

Damn mate... that sucks... sorry for your loss...

Just out of curiosity... what beer was in there at the time?

So your gonna be heading to the LHBS tomorrow to buy a new one and brew up a replacement batch?

DUDE! What an idea, make a video then bribe BB. "Send me 3 free BB's to this post office box and this will not go on youtube and posted to homebrewtalk forum."
