Has anyone ever used Ikea's 34 oz. flip-top bottles? My least favorite part of brewing (by far) is bottling, and I've started using Grolsch flip-tops to supplement my standard cap bottles. I'd also like to start rotating in some larger bottles, and I saw these during a recent Ikea trip:

My only concern would be the quality of the glass, i.e. will the bottles withstand the pressure of bottle conditioning/carbonation. Probably sounds paranoid, but I don't want to waste a batch and have a case of 34 oz. grenades on my hands, pun intended.

Slainte!

I Picked up one of these on an early order and it's a great bottle to have around

The real benefit here is that it's brown glass (not clear) so you won't have as much of an issue with skunking. No problems with carbonation (though it will take a little bit longer to carb up). Just gotta make sure you're dedicating some time to drinking almost 3 bottles worth of beer :)

I don't think they would work very well for beer, but they would certainly be good to have around for those "gift" bottles of mead, anisette, limoncello, stuff that isn't quite so stressed out by exposure to light. I might have to pick some up to have ready around the holidays.

I dont know where you guys store your beer that you're so worried about it skunking. I store my beer in my fridge, basement, or closet. None of which is exposed to the sun, or even has a light bulb of any kind on for a significant amount of time.

I've got a couple of the Ikea ones. They work ok, just keep them dark and don't go insane on the carbonation. Had a tripel in one for 6 months so far, no explosions.

The problem is they are just too big for a tripel unless there's 4 of you!

My opinion is buy these: http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/img_7716.jpg

It is just an image but I see these at larger liquor stores and have a few myself. They work well, are brown glass, hold carb/pressure well and come filled full of 1 + 1/2 pints of beer (27oz). They are about 1-2 dollars more (if that) than the IKEA bottles and you have a decent brew to drink!

I have about 20 of them and use them all the time. I HIGHLY recommend getting some Grolsh-like gasket replacements, the silicon ones they come with suck and will slowly turn your beer flat. I store them under my bar and haven't had a single issue with skunking. Haven't had a problem with them holding pressure yet either!
