How about 5 gallons? I think that's 60 lbs... I think I'll take 5 gallons if shipping is reasonable... wait who said $5 a gallon? tricked me

lol meadwitch.. thought u said it cost $5 a gallon... LOL... a gallon to ship my guess is ALOT more money... Think about it... a gallon of water weights about 9 lbs... to ship 9 lbs is expensive... to ship books with a discount (media mail)... for 3-4 pounds is about $6-7 ...

Weight of 1 US Gallon of water = approx. 8.35 lb

using paypal to do prepaid for USPS

I figure parcel post is the cheapest... send a package to myself... LOL

It's always going to depend on where you are relative to the source, but from what I've priced out, expect to pay 30-40 bucks extra for shipping a 5 gallon bucket.

Oh, and MeadWitch is partially correct...you will pay way less *per gallon* to ship if you are getting 5 gallons at once

I still have about 20 gallons of clover left and alot of fresh wildflower honey also.

Let me know if you are interested.

Just got about 60 pounds of honey shipped across the country, because I wanted a specific variety. Shipping was $19, USPS. I have no complaints. The quality of the honey is great and it arrived about 3 days after I ordered it.

Wow! Most places want anywhere from US$40 to US$80 to ship. Would you mind sharing your source. All I can buy locally is half gallons or less. I would really like to ramp-up my mead making next year.

Hmm, not wanting to hijack this thread. I'm sure if you do a search, you can find honey from Georgia or Florida online, at good prices. I just wanted to mention that shipping USPS is very quick and economical.

Priority Mail uses a flat rate on their boxes: "if it fits, it ships for one low price" and the USPS price list says "send for one price, regardless of weight or distance". Flat rate, though there is tiny print that says "up to 70 pounds". You can fit a lot of honey in those boxes, especially if it's in 80 oz containers.

Yep, those medium flat rate boxes are free through the right channels. you can fit a galon in them I'm pretty sure. They cost $10.70 to ship from the post office or $10.20 through Pay Pal shipping acounts.

Jeez. can you imagine the shipping on a gallon of honey?
Yes I can and have paid for it - probably more than most here.....

Dunno how far it'd travel for only 5$......

How much does shipping a gallon usually cost?
Well, to here, it costs, for a single gallon about the 70$ mark and that's USPS (UPS/DHL/FEDEX are all considerably more). So it I want something really unusual, then to make it cost effective it has to come 5 gallons a time - shipping for that is about 240$ and at an average price for the honey from somewhere like the Beefolks, then it works out to me, at about £4.50 which is expensive but worth it if it's something that I can't normally locate here.....

Example, I recently managed to get a 14kg bucket of Polish Buckwheat honey. One of the Polish chaps on gotmead ordered it for me and had it sent to the home of a Polish guy who works for my employer. I just had to wait until he went over for a short break and could bring it back with him. It cost me 280zł which included the cost of sending it from SW Poland to NW Poland. The 280zł translated into £56.86 so it worked out at £1.08 per lb or 1.67$US per lb. So if I can find it closer, I will.

Moral of the story, it depends on how far you're shipping it, and who's actually doing the shipping.......

regards

Yes, the price is no doubt very dependent on who's doing the shipping and whether it crosses borders. Atlanta to Santa Fe (nearest city) is about 1400 miles and coast-to-coast is about twice that distance, so $19 flat rate Priority Mail within the US is still pretty cool.

I think the original poster is in Michigan, so they should be able to cram their honey into those Priority Mail boxes too.
