First and foremost, it's not a challenge to sit there in the dead of summer and dump ice cold water on your head. The "challenge" itself initially, as I understood it, was either or. You dump water on your head or you donate $100 to ALS.
Next year, I hope its a KFC bucket challenge.
Would it be bad form to donate to another charity that I'm more in tune with. I got nominated by someone who decided the entire friends list he has would be a good idea.
Personally I prefer to drive around drinking beer, I just throw the empty cans out the window when I'm done with them in case someone else needs them which meets all of my charity obligations as far as I'm concerned.
