I would second the suggestion to call around and find someone with a plasma cutter (Welding shops and Muffler repair spring to mind and are fairly common in most places)
I have an old keg that we modified for a different type of project, but it was more of a PITA for me to take it to the shop than it was for them to cut the hole I marked (and probably spent more in gas driving 10 miles round trip)
(I guess that didn't come out like I intended... The hassle in finding the place to do it was negligible, but once I got there it took minutes to do the job, and cost less than gas. Was a bargain IMHO)
