... SWMBO, that is. She stopped at a booze megastore yesterday (Total Wine & More) to pick up some wine, and the thoughtful lass decided to pick up some treats for me, too.

Edenton's (localish brewery) King David's Red Ale
Dogfish Head's Chicory Stout
Avery's Eddie's Brown Ale
Rouge's Mocha Porter
Great Divide's Wild Raspberry Ale (sentimental... my 1st HB batch was a raspberry pale ale)
Brooklyn's East India Pale Ale

Good catch! Every one needs some one to suprise them w/ good beer. BTW get to work, those beers wont drink themselves.

Nice score!

Let us know what you think on those!

I thought the Brooklyn EIPA was pretty good. Not over the top by any means but a good example of the style.
I've got a feeling I'll not be tasting that one. I noticed that it was in the fridge this morning when I left for work, which means SWMBO probably has some plans for it already.

I've had the Edenton's Red on one of the GRABASS outings, and I liked it a lot.

I've never had Rogue's mocha porter, but porter is the blood that runs though my veins, so I'm stoked about that one.

Brown ale's can be hit or miss with me, so I'll pass along the verdict when I get around to drinking it.

The DFH actually has chicory and coffee in it, by the way.

SWMBO also handed me a catalog from the store, and I went ape-**** putting check-marks next to the beers I wanted to try. If she picks up a sixer for me every week, I think I'll have tried all I want to try by 2012.

That's a good woman you have there Walker... :rockin:

I just had a bottle of the DFH last night... It's good, but it wasn't as full as I thought it might be, but see what you think. I had other things on my mind tho, so I'll probably grab another bottle and give it a more fair taste testing...

(Me saying to SWMBO... "It's research honey....") ;)

actually.. that's my bad. The bottle says Ellie's on it, but I mistakenly wrote Eddie's.

The dog might be ok. :)

Walker, your post inspired me to build a six-pack of my own:

Anchor Steam - always a favorite
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Arrogant Bastard Ale
Weyerbacher Heresy Imperial Stout
Weyerbacher UFO Hefeweizen
Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale

Anyone have any input on these brews? I'm currently drinking the Samuel
Smith's...had a little more hop bitterness than I expected from a Nut Brown Ale, which simmered down a bit after a few minutes in the glass, but overall a very good beer...good clarity, nice subtle malt profile...very enjoyable :rockin:

On a side note, for anyone on the Philadelphia area, I have found a proverbial gold mine for import and microbrewed beers - Michael's Jewish Delicatessan in King of Prussia...a little pricy, but the selection is huge. I saw a Sam Adams Triple Bock, tons of Magic Hat, a Rogue Porter and IPA in this really cool looking, metal-like Grolsch-style bottle (19 bucks a bottle..aaah!), and tons more...they advertise that they have over 500 different kinds of beer...it took me forever to settle on this 6 pack. I'm sure I'll be making many trips back to feed my sampling needs :D

Well, I really like Dead Guy and the SS Nut Brown. Most of the others I haven't tried with the exception of UFO's hefeweizen which I didn't like that much as it wasn't very hefe-y to me (not sure which yeast they use, but it doesn't seem terribly phenolic to me).

I've had all fo those but the wyerbacher ones. Haven't had an Anchor steam in months. Need to revisit and post my late findings in teh BOTW thread. Arrogant Bastard is one of my faves lately. I want to find an "oaked" bottle.

i'm waiting on a bottle of that heresy in the mail from another guy on the forum, can't wait. ellie's brown was my favorite when i was obsessed with brown ales in my underage days.

Dude, maybe this is just the noob in me showing through, but what do you mean by an "oaked" bottle?

I just cracked open the Hefeweizen (which, by the way, is by Harpoon, not Weyerbacher as I had originally posted), and I have to agree with you on this one Baron...I haven't had very many Hefe's, but this one seems kind of bland...not very malty, not very hoppy...just a very neutral beer. It's not a bad beer by any means, but just not exactly what I had expected. This is the kind of beer where I could sit down on a hot summer day and throw down a six pack without ever thinking about it, given it's neutrality and lightness.

I also finished off the Anchor Steam a little while ago (what can I say, today has been dubbed a drinking day):mug:...First time I've had one in a while, and I definitely need to buy it more often. Just a great all around beer.:rockin:

Now, I'm off to rack my Red Ale to secondary, drink a few more out of my six-pack, and start planning the next homebrew. Cheers!:mug:
