So I was doing a little planning for my brewing schedule over the next 2-3 months, and did a hop inventory...and I think I have a problem. My hop inventory is:

Pellet:

Citra - 20 oz (2010)
Galena - 8 oz (2010)
Hersbrucker - 10 oz (2010)
Warrior - 9 oz (2010)
Riwaka - 7.5 oz (2011)
Simcoe - 14 oz (2010)
Columbus - 6 oz (2010)
Falconer's Flight - 7 oz (2010)
Amarillo - 13 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Willamette - 6 oz (2010)
Chinook - 8 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Centennial - 17 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Nugget - 4 oz (2010)
Cascade - 8 oz (2010)

Total - 185.5 ounces

Leaf:

Citra - 1.5 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Simcoe - 4 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Amarillo - 3 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Centennial - 4 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Warrior - 7 oz (2010)
Nugget - 6 oz (2010)
Chinook - 8 oz (2011)
Columbus - 16 oz (2011)
Cascade - 16 oz (2011)

Total - 97.5 ounces

Do I have a problem, or are there others like me?? :mug:

I think you better use the Riwaka...They are my favorite hop. It will will make a great single hop beer.

If you feel you need to clear out some excess I'll take anything you don't want.

Nice stash though!
That's enough for what 30-40 brews or 150-200 gallons of beer? That's about 2 years supply at my rate.:drunk:

You better get to brewing!:ban:
:mug:

I don't think those are two mutually exclusive items.

Agreed.

Though I'd say you should just brew up the mother of all IIPA's with some of that. :) Though admittedly, the biggest hop bill I've seen for an IIPA calls for something like a total of 15 oz., including 5 oz. in dry hop.

I've brewed a IIPA several times with 16 oz total hops with 5 oz dry hop. I'm thinking about something like that (a few times over).

I'm almost this way with specialty grains too. If I'm ordering something from an online store and they have something new or something I haven't tried, I'll order two pounds. I have at least a pound of almost every new specialty grain out there, and a couple of pounds of every L crystal and almost all of the dark malts available.

I wish I had the storage space for that. Right now I'm keeping a 1 lb. bag of Amarillo, and while I plan on using a lot of that for an IIPA I'm brewing, I kind of don't want to because I just like opening my freezer and smelling it. :cross: Sadly, my apartment won't allow me to keep more than maybe 2 lbs. of whole leaf hops at a time in the freezer - just not enough space. :(

That is amazing!

I had a huge stockpile of hops at one point to, what resulted was a beer I labeled ‘molten melancholy’.

It was an Imperial Black IIPA, that was a mix of Pliny the Elder and Dog Fish 90 minute. This beer had a 90 minute boil had almost the same hop schedule as Pliny but at the 60 minute it was continuously hoped with tons of different hops, all the while accented with the Pliny hop schedule, dry hopped the hell out of that thing to.

That has been one of the funniest beers to make to date (I have done it twice to). I put some de bittered malt in the mash with a touch of chocolate; it was delicious and the roast came out even after all that malt.

So I was doing a little planning for my brew day.

75# - 2row
5# - cara 40

mash @ 150

Yeast: US-05

Continuously hop equal quantities over 90 minutes of the following w/ pellet:
Citra - 20 oz (2010)
Galena - 8 oz (2010)
Hersbrucker - 10 oz (2010)
Warrior - 9 oz (2010)
Riwaka - 7.5 oz (2011)
Simcoe - 14 oz (2010)
Columbus - 6 oz (2010)
Falconer's Flight - 7 oz (2010)
Amarillo - 13 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Willamette - 6 oz (2010)
Chinook - 8 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Centennial - 17 oz (2010) 16 oz (2011)
Nugget - 4 oz (2010)
Cascade - 8 oz (2010)

Dry hop w/ Leaf:

Citra - 1.5 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Simcoe - 4 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Amarillo - 3 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Centennial - 4 oz (2010) 8 oz (2011)
Warrior - 7 oz (2010)
Nugget - 6 oz (2010)
Chinook - 8 oz (2011)
Columbus - 16 oz (2011)
Cascade - 16 oz (2011)

Total - 25 gallon batch

Fixed...

I have about 25-30lbs of hops. Of course, I used 20oz. in my last IPA. You can never have too many hops, unless you don't use them. There has been a lot of panic buying lately. Try experimenting with different hop combinations. You might just find a great new combo!

If you feel like you have a problem I could take half of your 'problem' off your hands. Especially the simcoe, amarillo, and chinook.

Does it look something like this:

14 pounds; it seemed like every recipe I want to brew has different hops in it! I have a couple guys thinking about starting brewing, so I will probably hook them up with some. This would be two years on my own.

Every time I order from Hops Direct, I open the box and wonder what the hell I was thinking.

I've still got unopened pounds left from last years order, and I just got about 10 more pounds from them. They ran out of one of them (Simcoe, I think), so they let me take an extra pound of chinnook. They had a 1# limit this yr, so I got to break the hop law. Arrogant bastard, here I come.

I like the smell to. Someone needs to start marketing hop air fresheners. That would be cool.

However, if you're smelling hops every time you open your freezer, then you're not storing them right! They need to be airtight.
