I've hated her for years. Ugh, how utterly annoying. I know she knows how annoying she is, and she plays that up (see: Seinfeld), but it still doesn't work.

Then I see this
.

I gotta say...it makes up for a LOT of her annoying sh*t. It's about time someone called out all the ********* in sports and entertainment who thank Jebus when they do well. I don't want this to be a religious debate or anything, but think about it: if God is really real, what kind of God is s/he, that s/he's worrying about whether or not some football player makes a touchdown catch or whether some baseball player hits a home run, while innocent infants are dying of hunger and thirst and disease on the other side of the world? Has it never struck anyone as just a bit odd that any "benevolent" god could have such effed up priorities? And doesn't it seem a bit selfish for these millionaires to be taking up god's time with prayers about such things, when they know horrible things are happening all over the world that might deserve god's attention first?

Just sayin' is all. :p

And anyone that has the cojones to say "Suck it, Jesus" on tape, well...dem's some big friggin cojones. Especially considering that atheists are maybe 5% of the population in this country.

I frequently make these same types of comments myself Evan; I understand the players who thank God for their talents ect... but the praying on the sideline makes me bat s**t.

Nothing drives me more than the Colts brass thanking God for everything that happens on the field. Wigged right out of it they are.

...the owner for the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, and his head coach,Tony Dungy, boldly gave God all the glory for their victory at Super Bowl XLI. "Now there's an awful lot of shining glory," said Irsay on the nationally televised post-game show. "But we're giving it all to God again because that's what got us here...

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Nascar comes second.....

The fact that it's going to be edited really pisses me off. Talk about no spine... They'll let some drunk celeb go out and talk nonsense, they'll let Britney Spears make a fool of herself at the VMAs then immediately let Sarah Silverman rip on her and her kids, but at the first negative mention of the g-man the network execs get their panties all up in a bunch...

Good for Kathy Griffin. Although I'm sure that it breaks her heart that she was condemned by Catholic League President Bill Donohue, who in his comments declared this to be his theme song:

Evan, if you keep this up you may end up changing avatars more than you change underwear this week. :D

I'm going to get my comment in here before I have to recuse myself and moderate. (Yes, it has that potential).

This is all about Kathy Griffin. I find her just as attention getting as those that wear their religion on their sleeves.

I don't find her behavior furthering any kind of discourse. She just ain't that kind of satirist. Again, this seems to be about her.

Too late

I just can't figure out what works. Li'l brudder comes in a little to small to read his quote. If only I had a logo for my brewery.

Attention-whore or not, she said what I'm thinking every time some ****** prays in the end zone or points to the sky when they hit a homer. Sure she's whoring for attention. That's what they do up there in Hollywood. But it's pretty great nonetheless.

Personally, I say “to each his own”. If someone wants to thank god or believe god has a direct hand in their life, good for them. Who am I (or you) to pass judgment on if they are honestly thanking god or just doing it for show. If someone doesn’t want to thank god or believe in god, then good for them as well. I think it is petty of others to attack people for this.....

Dude, I love Stephen Lynch :tank:

And I think the sentiments are less about athletes in particular and more of just a general backlash around what the extreme religious groups have been trying to do to US law; picking on the athletes is just an easy and potentially less offensive way to do it.

Did she say anything about airline food? That would be pretty topical too!

I always find it funny when two opposing sports teams huddle up before the game and both pray to let THEM win. I can understand play a good game, no injuries and so forth, but I've overheard on many a broadcast praying for themselves to win.

After the game, the taunt is, "Hah, God likes us more than you!!!" Or maybe better "we must not have prayed enough". Which is just their way of avoiding the idea that maybe they just suck.

Who needs to read it, all should know: "I can make it on my own!"

If we all stopped criticizing others for doing what we think is stupid sh*t...what a dull world this would be. I'm sorry, but people do dumb sh*t all the time, and "to each his own" is a pretty silly way of handling it. Sure, some things deserve a "who cares, whatever", but if calling people out for stupid sh*t is "petty", then call me petty. And yes, by all accounts, thinking that god has nothing better to do than worry about your effing rushing yard stats or your emmy award IS stupid.

Ok then, yes you are petty. I don't think everyone agrees as to what "dumb sh*t" is. I'm sure there are things you do that others think is dumb sh*t.
So someone believing in god and that god has a hand in their life is dumb sh*t? Guess I'm a dumb sh*t, I think being petty and putting down others for their beliefs is dumb sh*t…but at least I'm not starting threads putting down others beliefs or lack of.......

I wouldn't call making fun of Jesus on TV having cajones, loads of folks do it.

Now, if she would have said "Suck it, mohammad" THAT would have taken cojones!

I don't think that Evan was "putting down others beliefs or lack of....." as much as he was annoyed at how people in entertainment seem to overuse this in an effort to get attention. Most of them probably do hold religious beliefs that are very important to them in their lives, but religion is something that normally is personal to someone, not necessarily something that you need to bring to the public eye just because you are an entertainer.

What gets me about it are the pro athletes that give the "Thank you Lord" speeches, then a week later they're busted in a hotel room with 3 hookers and a pound of smack. You have to admit that there are probably *some* people do it for no reason other than PR.

If you construe what I said as "putting down others for their beliefs", then perhaps you should go read what I said a few more times. I don't care about their beliefs. They can believe in god or mohammad or unicorns or the flying spaghetti monster for all I care. But just because they have beliefs doesn't mean that they are immune from criticism over stupid sh*t that they do---even if said stupid sh*t is in the name of said beliefs. And I'll reiterate: with all the suffering and hardship in the world, thinking that your god has nothing better to do than worry about your touchdown catch or your emmy award IS stupid.

Your comments just go to prove how, in our culture, people think that they should get a free pass on things if they have anything to do with major religions' practices/rituals. Call me petty if you wish, but somehow I doubt that you'd be calling me petty if these actors and athletes had been praising Zeus or the Viking gods. Just because something is done in the name of religion doesn't make it any less stupid. Like I said, I don't begrudge their beliefs in mohammad or jesus or FSM---I just commented on the foolishness of expecting their god to be worried about such trivial things.

This irks me to no end, too. Irks me even more that the networks will show it, but they won't show a fight on the field. God has no hand in your team's playoff win over another team, who probably prayed the same pray in the locker room.

If anyone puts themselves in the public eye, yes, it's open season. Did that Miss Teen chick deserve all the scrutiny and ridicule? Why yes, she did. People have to be accountable for their actions including the stupid things they say and do, especially on TV ;-)

Religious hypocracy doesn't get a pass either.
