I receive two brewing books - plus more - for my anniversary

Yesterday was my 18th anniversary. My wife was awesome and got me "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" as well as "Designing Great Beers". I had asked for (nor mentioned) neither - she did the homework and came up with the idea herself.

But that wasn't all. I did a full blog entry about my anniversary gifts if you want to read the rest. (yes, it is G rated, and contains a pretty awesome surprise)

Yeah, I was very excited about that one. Joy of Homebrewing will be used and appreciated, I'm sure, but so much of the content is stuff I'm exposed to here every day.

Every commercial brewery I have ever worked for has had Papazian's book in their library. It has some dated stuff, true, but there is a ton of great info and it is a fun read, his enthusiasm is contagious.

How in the world do you find time to brew? I have two and finding time for a brew day is hard enough. Of course they are both under the age of four.

I have 4 girls between 5 & 12. I brew at least once a month. I actually think its easier having 3 or more kids than 1 or 2. They tend to entertain each other this way and leave me time to brew. The 2 little ones helped me bottle a batch of barleywine today actually.

I do tend to brew later in the day, but it's just a matter of making time.

On Saturday, I'd delabeled around 55 longnecks by soaking them in a tub with B Brite the night before. Most labels fall right off, then you scrub any remaining glue off with a scrubber sponge + water in the sink. My 3 and 5 year olds had helped a bit with that process.

Last night, the two boys took it upon themselves to delabel the last fourteen bottles for me. Was pretty cool.

When I finished the longnecks, I put the 14 shorties I'd accumulated in to soak. Hadn't gotten around to them yet, but the boys fished them out, peeled them, and had them mostly scrubbed by the time I went into the kitchen.

Agreed. Multiples mean that there is usually something for them to do, even if it does result in more shouting per capita than the average house contains.

We've got six as well,& only one girl. Hope you get your wish this time around. We're coming up on 36 years...
