On a bet....for about 4 months...until my nephew turned me on to Hoegaarden. But I had a problem with the $40+ price tag for a case. Then I couldn't find it in the Sooner state after Anheuser Busch got involved. So, I decided to make my own!
After about 4 or 5 weeks of reading and researching (internet is awesome) I made my first extract brew. After the smoke cleared I felt like I had been digging a ditch all day! I was wore out. But... it was worth it. My beer tasted much better than I expected.
Notice I said "tasted". After a week in the keg I invited my nephew and his wife over to have a brew. Then I ran across a neighber...and his wife...and his brother.... and everybody loved it! Unfortunately, it seemed like only minutes until somebody came up to me with a mug full of foam and a face full of shock. It was gone....and I complained about the price of Hoegaarden. Oh well. No turning back now! AG is not far off! Cheers!!!

So the problem you have now is not having "real" beer on hand and you've quit drinking BMC swill. Welcome to the "real" world of beer! By the way, always make more than you can drink. Just ask BierMuncher!

I think that deserves a thread hint. :D

Edit: Oh and welcome aboard HopKing! ;) I hope you enjoy your new obsession like the rest of us do!

HopKing, let me also welcome you to this Forum, AND to the world of REAL Beer drinkers!

(Oh, if you're doing it right, {and tell your friends} you'll ALWAYS be out of beer.)(Unless you brew WAY too much!)

Thaks for the welcome!
So, what I'm getting out of this so far is: Good beer + friends/family = NO REAL BEER! And... SIZE (of the batch) DOES MATTER!:D

Remember when you were always told Patience was a virtue.... Well by God, Homebrewing is when patience pays off... Trust me, exercise your patience, you'll be glad you did... (always wait for it to condition it's 10x better)...

Oh and ALWAYS hide bottles where you KNOW you'll forget about them and then one day stumble on them.......

There's an easy solution to running out of beer. Move to rural Oregon, high up on a ridge where no one can find you.

Or, you follow in most of our footprints and drive yourself insane with the sheer amount of brewing equipment you keep on hand so that you can crank out ungodly streams of beer!

No kidding! Just last night I came across a bottle of my Russian Imperial Stout that I thought was kaput! I don't normally have beer during the week, but last night, after stumbling across this bottle at dinnertime, I thought it would be the perfect dessert. And, man, was it good! Wow!

Welcome aboard, HopKing. When I was a kid, our family lived in Tulsa for a dozen years many, many years ago.

My ears were burning... :D

Welcome to the homebrew habit HopKing. You'll never lay down another saw-buck for a commercial beer.

Oh...and who said I'm brewing more beer than I can drink??? :p

There's a recipe for Hoegaarden in my sig that's pretty dead-on for taste (just not for color). It benefits from aging.
