I have searched over and over again to see what is the advantage of using a Cornelius keg, or a Sankey keg. I am about to keg, i bought a 5 gallon Sankey keg thinking i could use it for home brew but now i am unsure. I opened it up with help of past post, and i cleaned it etc... But why are Cornelius kegs so popular? and can i even use my Sankey Keg for home brewing?

Cornelius kegs (and other soda keg brands) are so popular among homebrewers because they are cheap and readily available. Soda companies quit using them when they started using the bag systems. Now there are a ton of soda kegs out there, and at least right now they are cheap. Usually $15-35 apeice, depending on where you shop. Compare that to a new sankey, which is normally ~$150. In addition, the most readily available size of soda keg is 5 gallons, which is typically the size batch most homebrewers are doing.

If you have the money, sankey can absolutely be used for home brewing. I've never used them, but from what I've heard/read, sankey is a little easier to use, clean and maintain than soda kegs also. There just aren't a flood of used 5 gallon sankey kegs on the market, so nobody uses them.
