Finally got my foodsaver :)

Do you buy bulk pellets and then just divide them up into smaller bags?

i am trying to hold off to find a cheaper deal on the foodsaver but i havent gotten any new coupons/deals for it yet. My hops are waiting in my freezer

Which Foodsaver model do you all use? I was about to buy one a few months ago, but the bad reviews on Amazon made me put off the purchase.

I have the V2460A Foodsaver . Actually i gave it to my wife for Christmas 08. She loved it and I get to use it win-win

keep an eye out for post here I and some others get promo's from time to time and we post them. Last one was just before New Years 20% and free shipping but it expired

if all i'm going to use them for is hops and maybe some food is there any reason to get the big boy?

I like the big boy, but i have found that I also use it often because I am an avid fisherman and because I like to buy meat in bulk too. In my experience fish, beef, elk, and other meats will last up to a year or more if vacuum sealed and frozen. Ninety-nine percent of the time the meat tastes just as fresh as the day I sealed it.

On that note: What is everyone's experience with the Hops' shelf life? I am curious how long bulk hops will keep this way...I've stored leftovers this way before but it's only been the remaining 1/4 oz. or so and that usually goes in the next batch. I'd probably end up using what I buy in bulk long before it goes bad but has anyone ever disovered they waited too long and that the hops go bad after x amount of time?

The AA loss in hops that are vacuum sealed and frozen doesn't even change enough to notice until after a year, at least in my experience. YMMV

Kinda what I figured...I always used my leftovers quickly but I was curious about larger quantities (like pounds of hops) that would take a bit longer to go through.

Of course I could always just brew more if it turned into an issue! :D
