At least you're having productive coughing.. The worst is a dry and itchy infected throat. In any case, it's nothing an incredibly hot shower with the fan off and door closed, and a massive pull from a bottle of codeine syrup can't at least improve. We were all sick this past week too, but not bronchitis.

It's only productive because I'm taking Mucinex as well as a supplement called N-acetylcysteine. The first gets it more watery, the latter breaks up certain chemical bonds (and is also the precursor to a really powerful antioxidant). I didn't have what I needed the first day and absolutely nothing was coming up despite feeling a ton of itchy congestion in my chest, it was just way too thick.

The lung butter tastes different than usual, and not in a good way... having that taste and aftertaste in my mouth 24 hours a day is just cruel torture on top of the very violent and frequently painful. As far as having a dry and itchy throat goes, I'm not particularly congested in the sinuses or throat, but the sheer force from these coughs from hell has abraded my throat completely raw anyways.

Codeine is absolutely useless for me. I have a fairly common white-folk gene (dad's side) that causes me to pretty much lack the enzyme necessary to convert codeine - which, left unconverted actually doesn’t have any effect on its own - into morphine. Also causes the typical, nonprescription DM cough suppressant to hit me very strong and make me extremely loopy at the recommended doses on the bottles. And it's just slightly lowered the frequency of the coughs, but still didn't even remotely reduce their intensity.

So yeah, decided that I needed at least just a night of even mediocre sleep after getting no more than5 4 hours over the last two days and nights, and intermittent at that, so I hit the OxyContin. Should make it easier not just to fall asleep, but also act as a much more effective cough suppressant a la the infamous Bayer® Heroin™.

Now, perhaps some soft music to better facilitate my (hopefully) impending voyage to the land of Nod.

I've been playing with my long neglected laptop. I'm trying to get the wireless to work, which it will. Once I update the kernel and install kmod-wl so the system can talk to the wireless. Only somebody is sleeping in the room with the router. I'm missing another package you need to get the direct connect from another systems ethernet to work, and I can't figure out exactly which packages I need to install to make the module work with this kernel. So I can't just download them and use a thumb drive to move them over.

On the bright side, I just discovered revisor. So I'm going to make my own spin, that's fully updated and has the packages I need already installed. Well, I'm going to try anyway.

EDIT: Ouch, that suck Emjay. Better lay off the alcohol for a bit so you can stay hydrated.

Hmm, the bench grinder I bought today requires some assembly. It didn't come with directions, of any kind. Not even the but covering usual, "don't hurt yourself by being a dufus" stuff. Good thing it isn't especially complicated assembly, just the rests and the eye guards. Though I'm not sure I've got all the washers where they are supposed to go.

Your cat appears to be bigger then your dog. :)
Haha, yes he is LG. Last trip to the vet the dog was 15.1 pounds and the cat 15.5.

Good luck Dan.. It's impossible to know how you feel in a time like this, but you're doing things for the right reasons and I have faith that they will turn out well for you. And a good night to the room.
Thanks for the nice words of encouragement, BottleBomber. I guess I get myself worked up at times over this but I should open my eyes and count my blessings.

Dan, if I could, I would take your cat home and not even think about eating him. I bet he'd get along great with my dog and also the chickens. But I heard cats will want to eat baby chickens, and since we plan to have more babies, maybe not a good idea after all.

For roaches, there is, or was, something they sell at Lowes or Home Depot called "Max Force". A gel. Haven't had to use it in years, lucky for living in Florida. That's what you need, nothing else works like it does. Get 2 bottles, line the kitchen and bath with it, like bottoms of cabinets, but no pets if you do this. Put it in all hidden spots in the house, but mostly kitchen and bath and you will be sweeping up dead ones in no time. They will take it with them back to their nests and kill all their buddies too. As a Florida homeowner who has tried everything, I can tell you, that **** works.

Moving is not easy and pretty sure it's on the top 5 list of most stressful things you can do. Finding a new job is on the top 5 list too, I think. Good luck.

It's funny, when I was in the military moving was a way of life, every three years. But it was not like this next move. Back then a moving company would come in pack you up and ship it to the next duty station all for free. They even stored most of my household belongings the second time I was stationed in Hawaii. Hawaii house was to small for all that stuff. Three years later when I moved again I called the Personal Property office, they pulled the stuff out of storage and delivered to my next duty station. Plus every time I moved the military gave me extra tax free moving money. It was pretty sweet! This move is different and it is my final move.

Thanks for the tip on the cockroaches. The Realtor talked to the owner and I think they are going to at least pay for some bug bombs but I'll tell Jan about Max Force and maybe they will pay for that. We aren't moving in anytime soon, would give the poison a chance to work before we arrive with animals.

Super happy your dog is okay BL. Pet's are family. I know ours will pass on someday and that will be a sad day. But like family, nobody wants to see a pet suffer or die prematurely. I was torn about giving up Kohl cat but looks like everything is going to work out very well. Today really is a day of blessings.

Glad you found your dog, BL. Took me a while to realize you actually got him back.

Sigh. Going to be a long night. Can't sleep longer than about a half an hour at a time. And the only thing on the menu is... lung butter.

I hope you get to feeling better tomorrow Emjay. I'm with LG on the steam and also Vicks vapor rub, that seems to work pretty well. There is something sickeningly soothing coughing up a big loogie and getting it out of your body.

Some great things happened today. I found the perfect young couple to rent this house, well they found me really. A family of three, the guy is in the Navy and is the same rating as I was, Aircraft Electrician. Nice young couple with a 4 year old little girl. She had a blast playing in the backyard with my dog Dasher.

Second best thing. They asked if pets were allowed and I said cats and small dogs are okay. They asked if two cats would be okay because they were looking for another as a playmate for their cat. I said sure, how about that one? pointing to my cat Kohl. The wife loved him at first sight and asked how much? I told her free if you want him. They do. Big happy smiles all around. This is a huge burden off my heart.

Third blessing today, my animals that I am taking to Hawaii can not leave until mid-August. That means at least two weeks in a kennel. Kennels are expensive and I was really not looking forward to putting them through that he!!, so I was thinking about renting the middle of August. I asked the couple and they were both relieved a bit because that was a better date for them as well. Again, big happy smiles all around.

Goodnight guys. I'd better go to bed. Worked the late shift today but tomorrow, today actually back to the day shift.

Dan,

I will be really bummed if we for get together for at least one beer before you leave. I think we should make it happen soon.

Hey, I just saw LG flashing his ***** cat, first time I've seen it.

Woke up too early, about 3 AM here. Would it be weird if I asked the neighbors down the road if their 11 y/o daughter could hang out with me for the afternoon or something? When I ride over to visit them she seems so interested in stuff. Show her my chickens and my gardens, let her go through my box of too small for me clothes, take what she wants, and go pick the blueberries, we don't have a lot of wild blue berries growing but enough to get your fill and maybe pick a pint to take home. She said she loves blueberries. She said she wears a size 12 or 14 in girls size but the size 2 in woman's fit her great. I'm into a size 6 or 8 now and I don't plan on getting that skinny again. I told her I had some jeans the same size, as the pair of shorts I brought her, but they would be way to long for her, I'm 5' 7". She said excitedly, "That's okay, I can roll them up!". Or I can show her how to use a sewing machine and make them fit her right.

I guess just ask her parents. Take her out on the lawn tractor instead of 4 wheeling since it's much safer. Promise not to offer her any drinks or drugs. Maybe this weekend after my orders are filled. Says she loves fish too, so maybe catch some brim in the lake and cook those up over an open fire and have them for lunch with our berries.

Also this weekend getting together with my computer tech friend, get my website back on track. It's arts and crafts related and he used to work with me. Sneakily take it back from the UK guys, Our contract is up, they failed to do their end of it, but I still sort of need them right now. Come up with a plan to be back in control within a year. He said others have asked him to go in on deal like that, but they have no track record, I do. This time, partnership, instead of him working for me like last time. And separate from the UK guys. A switch to classic mode version of the site, pure html, the heart of the Internet, compatible with any device. Writing hard code, lots of copy and paste, the real deal. And impossible to hack, you can't hack hand written html code, not when it on a secure server which the UK guys are providing. But told my computer geek friend, I need money now, and money now is in the berries. Black gold. And he works too, so it'll be a weekend thing.

Hope you get feeling better very soon, Emjay. Yeah, found my dog. He's fine now. Just needed to rest up from his big adventure.

I'm suppose to be offline now. I was really going to go to bed, but had to check back in after brushing my teeth.. I'm addicted to this place.

You are right, Snaps! It would be an HBT disgrace if you and I didn't have at least one brew together. This weekend I can't because my son, his wife, and a buddy are driving up from Camp Pendelton to help me with a few things to get this house ready to rent. Plus, I really want to see my son.

The following weekend, 29th, I'm available. I'll PM you my phone number. Would love to have a beer with you. I've let my kegs run dry in preparation for shipping them By the way, if you're interested I'm selling 2 corny kegs. I have six and a three tap kegorator but have never managed to get more than two faucets going at a time.

I have to be honest, I like making beer, but making beer stuff I'm better at. No way get me confused with some guy who can build anything brew related and has a big brewery. I'm a simpleton really, but get enthused about the little bit of equipment I've pieced together.

Don't know if you ever saw my brewstand. Looked like this.
mashing-59350.jpg

I wanted to go electric but am now stuck with propane. In the above pic I had an electric HLT and it worked, eventually. Before that the HLT sat on a burner and was pretty high up there with the stand and burner. Had to use a step ladder to fill it with 5 gallon water jugs.

Now the stand looks like this. I want to find a keg for the HLT, would be nice to have the capacity plus would balance the stand out aesthetically.

Going to PM you my phone number and address as soon as I post this.

Revisor hasn't been updated in 5 system versions and now has a piece of logic built into it that is unnecessarily blocking it's ability to actually build a system spin. This is getting stupidly complicated. I'm going to bed now. I'll tackle this again when I feel like it.

Got it. Ill give you a ring early next week.

The brew stand looks nice. I want to go electric HLT and recirculating electric mash run on mine. I've got my rig broken down now for a rebuild with the above changes. Too hot to ferment here anyway until the chamber is finished. Two 17gal conicals, room for 8 buckets and a lagering chamber. :)

I'm interested in those kegs for sure. I keep 4 on tap, but it seems like I'm forever providing beer for weddings or bachelor parties, etc. I have 8 kegs now, but have had to borrow for the past few events. Built a really cool jockey box for such occasions.

So, I pulled the trigger and did the demo on my bathroom. Here are a couple pictures from when I moved in.

I did the tub and shower surround a while ago. The tub had a hole rusted through it. You can see the toilet and vanity removed, and the drywall with the horrible pink tile on it. Then I've got a shot of the new valves I'm going to use under my sink. The el cheapo stem vallves were leaking even as closed as I could get them with pliers. You can also see the ridiculous floor heat vent. The one that's the size of a wall vent, so you can't get a grate for it that is sturdy enough to step on.

Oh, I got the wireless on my laptop working. I decided to do the simple thing and just plug it into the router directly to install the software for the wireless.

Welcome to my world.

Very nice job!

I look forward to seeing the final product.

I brought some of my Centennial Blonde to an engineering society homebrew night this evening. A lot of big, good beers there, several national medalists and BJCP certified judges, and little old me with my lawnmower beer. It was not a judged event, but it was cool to get feedback on my beer. Several people, including one of the BJCP judges, applauded my courage for bringing such a light brew to the meeting. He said that lighter beers could be tough to pull off as off-flavors had no place to hide, and he said that mine was a nice clean brew.

I gave away a lot of free beer to many lovely college girls. Note - lovely college girls seem to like lawnmower beer over weizenbocks ;). It was a good night on the homebrew front.

I remember watching many a M.A.S.H episode. That was one of my favorite series.

Bye bye horrible vinyl floor, tomorrow your adhesive has an appointment with a solvent.

I just washed down a melatonin with a glass of rhodomel + a couple ounces of patron. Goodnight HBT crew.

I am floating now, hopefully I'll float off to sleep.

You know what's the key to behaving well when you are messed up? You have to remember that, no matter the circumstances, what is right is right. I guess I'm still awake, I feel odd right now.

"Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking".

I think about that all the time. It's important to me that I can look my kids in the eye when I give them hell. They know I walk the line.

Yea, that guy was superb. I watched 5 seasons in about 2 weeks. The second best series ever.

After this.

Pappy, showing your age. ;) I can't remember what night, M*A*S*H came on, thinking maybe Thursday nights. Loved that show. When I was a kid it was a show the whole family watched together.. ahem.. along with, The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie.

The whole family didn't watch Hogan's Hero's re-runs every weeknight at six PM, but I did.

I'm the late righter tonight. Worked nights last night? Days today, I think I'm back on the evening shift tomorrow, so I can stay up a few more minutes. I actually had something I was going to mention when I started typing.. now I don't even remember. Thinking about my work schedule threw me off my train of thought. Oh well.

Good night HBT.

I still love watching those old shows. Sure seems like TV was better back when I was a kid. One of my favorites was on Sunday afternoon called Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

Well my wife is slowly getting better. Thank goodness for modern medicine or I think this would have had a much different ending. We had to buy a thing that made a mist out of the medicine and she would breathe that through a tube but the one we got did not function right and caused her oxygen levels to drop down to 80%. When we figured out what was wrong we got a new one and it is amazing how much better she is doing now.

Might want to get a cheap (ebay) pulse oximeter for her at home. There are some very small ones that you can keep in your pocket.

I bought one from a medical supply shop thinking it would be good to have around. I also have a oxygen concentrator that I have had for years.

Funny thing about this is I do not go to Dr's yet when she got sick I was all about getting her in to see one.

Glad your wife is on the mend VM. I was getting worried not seeing you on here.

Job schmob Creamy. You have given the world the joy that is the Okra Mead Video.
