Just tonight, out of nowhere my son came over to me and gave me a huge hug. Definitely made my night! And I had grounded him today so it was all the more a surprise (and no Creamy - I'm not trying to fool you - last night was a *much* different experience )

Saturday mornings were cartoon day. My brothers and sister and me would get up at the break of dawn and watch them on an old B&W TV in the early 70's. Now seems like cartoons are available 24/7. So are a lot of other things I suppose.

Sorry for that. Hang in there though - the one plus is that kids don't tend to hold grudges for long.

I also had plenty of uninterrupted Saturday mornings watching cartoons and eating many bowls of sugar coated cereal.

My wife listened to my son talk about how his step dad really loves him, and I don't. And I'm weird and don't understand because I don't like video games. (His mom is a video game addict and me her husband online gaming while we were still married. I'm obviously not a fan)

I got to sit down and tell him that even though I didn't buy him a 42" tv for his room and I don't let him play video games has nothing to do with me loving him. And explain that he's only spent 3 1/2 weeks with him in the 2 years he's been their step dad. That he doesn't know what he'll be like.

That's a tough situation Snaps. I think you are on the right track. Your love for your son will be understood by him, he probably already feels it even if he doesn't admit it. Might take some years before he comes to accept things. Divorce on a child is not easy, not by a longshot. Give him time and love him. In the end he will accept the love and return it.

It sucks when there's another guy around your kid. I'm happy there isn't currently one around my daughter. As for video games, just about everyone my age is addicted to them. I wasn't when I was a kid but I'm happy my parents didn't spoil me with them.

I'm his dad. His mom and stepdad live in Oklahoma. It wasn't until after the divorce that I figured everything out with them. He met them the day before they snuck away to Vegas for a secret wedding. Didn't tell the kids, me, anyone. My brother saw a picture in Facebook that a friend of his commented on. In two years he spent 3 days total (2 trips) with them. They just went on their first trip to be there over Christmas break. They both got 42" flat panels in their rooms with game systems and surround sound. It was the biggest spoiling I've ever seen of a 6 and 9 yo in my life. Quite frankly I understand it. They owe those kids a lot to even try and make up for things.

Quite possible this song was posted earlier in this thread, if it was, probably was by me. This song comes from Ecclesiastes 3. My dad posted the bible reference in the hometown paper after a loving Thank You and goodbye in his retiring and last few days of his life.

Has a special meaning for me as I'm sure it does to many.

Snaps, I'm by far NOT an expert. But do have some personal experience with what you are going through. Be a good dad, love your kids. They haven't stopped loving you, just a little confused along the way. In the end they will see the truth. We're adults and see stuff a little differently. Love them as they continue to grow and someday they will understand and be more open about their love for you.
