So Dan,where are you planning on building this place? I would suggest somewhere with definite seasons, where it is cold part of the year. Keeps the slackers out. And also requires wood splitting, which will fit in nice with your fitness regimen. Naturally fertile soils, adequate rainfall so no irrigation needed. If you want to make cheese and sausage that will require cows and pigs. Might as well have some chickens too. Which will all require pasture and grain. Barley isn't as good a feed as corn, but if you stuck to one crop it would keep equipment costs down. The barley could be malted as well as fed to the livestock. Any spent grain would be more valuable as feed for the livestock than compost.

All in all it sounds like a pretty good plan, but we need more details. Except for the bath every day part, not sure I'm down with that....

You my friend bring up some very good ideas! I'll have to check with Pappy to find out where exactly HomeBrewTown is. Even though I have a corner plot I'm not really sure of its location.

Four seasons is a great suggestion. We'll make cider in the fall when the apple trees are busting with fresh apples. Plant our grains early in the year and harvest around summer time. In the winter we can plant wheat, it will be tilled under or harvested. We win either way. As this town progresses and people have children, they will be raised by us as a community. Serious question here. What religion are we? Are we all the same? In my heart I believe every man and woman is the same, we have different outlooks on life depending on how we were raised.

HappyTown, (yeah I just suggested a name) will be one filled with respect for each other, perseverance for our brother, happiness and love for one another. Wouldn't it be nice

Not trying to make this a political thread. But I''m gonna post a song from Johnny Cash. It's about a small town and pride in America. This song brings tears to me, aint going to lie about that. So, at the risk of taking this thread off track. (which is pretty much impossible) Here's my hero Johnny Cash and one of my favorite songs by him.

Well Dan I am of no persuasion when it come to religion. Mind you I do not force by belief or lack thereof on anyone. My wife claims I am the most spiritual person she knows yet do not believe in any religion. I tend to get any comfort from the wild country high up in the mountains where no one else goes.

I hope there are some wild places nearby

V-man. Our town will be close to mountains. BobbiLynn will make butter. This town, we will keep from growing exponentially. It will be our little town.

Some opossom catching music

I don't know if I could be married to someone who doesn't understand the seductive power of bacon fat.
Mmm, bacon. Though I've heard that pastrami is the most sensual of the cured meats.

I sure hope I can join you all in Happy Town. This picture, and the resin casting of a gravestone are the only decorations on my living room walls.

I have to say it is much nicer in this thread than in other threads in the forum. For some reason it seems as if here we know that we do not want problems or the thread shut down so we are kind of laid back. I enjoy that

This is definitely the kicked back thread on here. In general the mods frown on chat threads, but this one has done fine because of the excellent vibes.

Which proves what I've thought all along. Alcahol doesn't cause uncontrollable behavior....it's just an excuse.

Today's installment of Mean Mary......

I think this shows why he was loved by so many - even people who wouldn't normally listen to that style of music. He definitely knew how to relate to the everyday man!

This is one that always sends chills up my spine (especially this version which has been on my iPod for years.)

Yes, I hope so, lovely picture and the casting is so, um, curious.

I had to disappoint you all but I unset the trap for tonight. Hubby having a really rough day and if we have to head to the hospital, I'd hate to leave Billy Jim Bob trapped and alone. :(

Dang I hope the best for him. Been a bad week for you with you being sick and now the hubby.

This might cheer you up. Only a minute long but I bet it would cure you rodent problem

First time I heard this song I was maybe 12 and we had hiked way back into the sawtooth range. Still gives me chills to hear it

So are we talking the Appalachians, the Rockies or the Sierras? Ot maybe the Ozarks?

Off to work a bit early tonight. Snow, rain, sleet and freezing rain all in the forecast. Think I will fire up the trusty rusty old GMC, lock her in 4 wheel and away we go.

I'll leave you with a little Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

Have a good night, everyone.

Yup. There's a reason he was so popular, and it surely wasn't because he had a golden voice. :D

The most beautiful song ever, put to bagpipes. This stops me in my tracks and makes me thankful and humble.

Hope she's feeling better now.

We are going to start a commune near a mountain and for some reason I have to make the butter.

Awesome, my mom can make the soap and I know how to brew beer. Lol

I made a corned beef, egg, and mozzarella sandwich. It's the closest to heaven I ever expect to be.

Hey Airborne! Good to see you my friend. This thread is kind of quite for the moment. I got to get to bed myself. Have a great shift! I'm sure this thing will take off again. I gotta get some sleep. Cheers my brother! :D

I just inhaled a giant order of garlic cheese bread from the restaurant at the Casino. As soon as we were done the radios start blaring. Luckily I have two partners today, cuz the lactose intolerance will hit soon. I'm manning the office now and they're off on the reservation saving lives (prolonging death).

So there were over 300 people packed into a tiny red barn along with 2 horses.

Oh, I was just thinking back on an organic farming seminar I attended years ago. It rained on our parade. Also windy and cold, but we all stayed warm in the barn. At the commune maybe we can all meet in the barn once a week for a town meeting.

What's up guys? Back at work after a nice long weekend, then I'm on vacation (staycation) next week. How's everyone else?

You still at work? How's your day been?

Oops, or should I have said "night been?" We're getting confused around here. Days and nights all mixed up.
