I found a Mr. Beer keg. Can I lager in it?

I know there is the Mr. Beer sticky, but after around 20 or so pages I got frustrated with looking at stuff that doesn't pertain to what I am wondering.

Anyways, found a Mr. Beer keg outside my apartment near the trash can (score!) and I want to know what all I can do with it. Planning on doing 2.5gallon AG in there, but I am wondering if I could also lager in it? I am not planning on bottling out of it since I have a bottling bucket, but could I primary in it, and then stick it in the fridge? Or even primary in my bucket or BB and then transfer to the Mr Beer for lagering?

I know people with experience use these for experimental test batches, but I just want to know everything that I can potentially use this free item for.

Yep...you can lager in your fridge next to your milk even.....

will there be any advantage to primarying in a bucket then transffering to the keg for lagering?

Depends on what you're making.... but if its a lager, it needs to be cold (50F) so unless your bucket is temp controlled don't use the bucket.

I think i should be able to maintain a 55 degree temperature, but it would definately be easier in the mr beer keg. I guess I will plan on doing that, and maybe siphoning to bottlign bucket, cleaning out the mr beer keg, and then racking back into it when i go to lager

One more thing if I am halfing recipes would I only had half a pack of yeast?

Just add the full pack of yeast..it cost a whopping $2 right? Extra yeast won't hurt unless you're planning on culturing.

Thats what I figured, but I didn't know if too much yeast could be a bad thing.

The valve seems to be leaking too actually. Anybody have any quick fixes to make it water tight?
