Last night at 8:00pm, I finished my coursework for my MBA by taking my (hopefully) last final.

Woo hoo!!! I'm done! DONE!!!

I got my MBA about a year ago. It was really cool. I got a free T-shirt and a pint glass and they put my name on a plaque at Goose Island. All I had to do was drink like 50 different beers.

Thanks again all. Just got my grades in. I finished with a GPA just over 3.08. Not fantastic, but factor in that my wife got preggo during my first quarter and I gave up a lot of attention to school to pay attention to my son. Also, I chose to specialize in a field completely foreign to me (Finance).

So I end up with an MBA with a specialization in Finance and Database Systems and a Graduate Certificate in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.

Woo hoo! Bring on the celebration burrito!! (If I weren't so sick, I'd be much more enthusiastic).

Now that my wife has finished her Master's (she'd defending her thesis next month, but it's essentially done), I'm debating whether I want to go back for an MBA or not. I don't really need one for work, it won't have a direct impact on my employment (I'm a CFA charterholder already), but I've thought about starting to teach some classes at night in a few years. Not sure if it's a requirement for being an adjunct prof, but it can't hurt... the problem is that the schools where I can go locally (I have no interest in online classes, I *like* being in a classroom) don't have a part-time MBA program that allows a finance concentration. I don't have any interest in learning marketing or other broad management topics... so I don't know, I'm still exploring my options, and when it comes time to do salary negotiations at the end of the year, I may see if I can get the company to pick up some of the associated costs.

To be a Prof. at an accredited school, you need a PhD. With a Masters, you can teach at a JUCO. (My Acct. professor talked to us about teaching requirements.) I think most Adjunct profs have either a Masters and a J.D. or a Masters and a butt-load of real life experience with MAJOR companies. In your field, you'd probably want to be like Hedge Fund material to become a professor (which I believe means you earn $1 mm+ per year from your invstments, right?)

In your area, you should be able to find a part-time B&M school with a Finance specialization. That's what I did - part time (meaning 1-2 courses per quarter) at a brick & mortar (Loyola University Chicago).

In your profession, the CFA is king. As for taking Marketing and other classes, well they're a necessity and well worth it. You need to learn how each department interacts and how to speak the lingo for each area. You also need to learn how to tie them all together.

Yes. Actually ended up getting in a bit of trouble the next morning. I got completely wasted that night. Woke up the next morning to my wife reading the chat I'd left open from the night before, from an old fling with whom I'd recently reconnected via Friendster. I don't talk to her anymore. The fling, that is.
