Brewed a pale ale yesterday, when i was done i took a gravity sample. my hydrometer read 1.060, which was a bit high because it was supposed to be a 1.052 beer (although at 75% efficiency it was supposed to be 1.057).
my hydrometer is a bit off, when at 70F, it measures two lines above the 1.000 mark, so in the case of my 1.060, it would technically be 1.064.
So after that i took a sample for my refractometer, and got about 13.2, which calculates out to 1.052.
After thinking about it, the way i got my sample was, about 10 minutes after letting my wort settle in the kettle, I drained some into a pitcher, i let it settle out for a bit, then poured it for my gravity sample, then later took a few drops off the top for the refractometer sample, do you think glucose "settles out"?
not quite sure what to say the gravity of this beer is....

Typically, hydrometers are calibrated at 60F, not 70F.

If your wort is well-stirred, it will be the same gravity all the way through.
