Anyone know if you can get different readings on your hydrometer if a smaller or larger cylinder is used?
I typically use my fermtech wine thief with my hydrometer in it to take readings.
I racked my kölsch to my bottling bucket and filled my larger hydrometer test cylinder and it seemed the reading was slightly higher by 2 points.

The beer (since i was measuring fg) was about 2-4degrees difference in temp. The test cylinder is larger in diameter then the thief. I spin, push the hydrometer down and let it stabilize a few times to make sure. I know it finished brewing since my hydrometer reading had not changed in over 1 week. I cold conditioned for 2 weeks after the fermentation week to clear the kölsch and get the sulphur smell/taste to dissipate (wpl029 yeast). I allowed the temp to climb back up for 3 days before bottling today, so i know it finished. I did notice in the cylinder there was some bubbling.
