hi there guys a made a 3gallon batch of turbo cider today and the hydrometer reading was 50 it wis a real cheap hydrometer and only approx suger on it and a have not got a clue what that means added about half a bag suger to 12l of apple juice could anyone help me out thanks

hmmmm....the only thing I could think of would be that it's a reading of 1.050

It's possible that it's a "balling" reading, but 50 would put you WAY over the top on sugar.

Are there other markings on the hydrometer other than the 50 mark?

There you go! your reading is 1.050.

As you can see it starts (on the right in the photo) at .980, goes up to 1.000 and then just steps up by 10 after that. 1.050 is a good number to start with. Now it's just a matter of waiting ;) You may not get exact readings from this, but it will put you in the ballpark.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
