The beer kit i bought says to add the yeast then take the OG reading but when i watch videos on youtube they always take the reading then add the yeast. Do you add the yeast before or after the OG reading?

For OG, you take your reading before you add the yeast. For FG, you check the gravity after fermentation.

That being said, if you add the yeast and soon after take a OG reading, it'll be close enough if not essentially the same as if you didn't add the yeast. Now if you wait a day, then you'll get an off reading.
