As my username suggests, I'm out in the West Texas mountain region. I got into brewing as a college student in Austin and have continued to brew (on and off) ever since. I've been reading a few threads here looking for inspiration and ideas. Mostly, I'm looking for ways to 1) make my homebrew better and 2) make the process easier. Because I sometimes have a bit of arthritis pains in my hands, I'm always on the lookout for ways to save myself from lifting heavy pots/carboys/etc. Recently acquired several BetterBottle ported carboys and am impressed with how much easier they make the whole process. Looking to do something similar now with the hot side of things. Anyway, enough of an intro, I guess.

Hi and thanks for being here!

Welcome to the forum. Time to start thinking about a single level brew sculpture with pumps, so you don't have to lift as much.

Howdy and welcome! I'm originally from Conroe, TX and lived all over East Texas before moving to GA around 1990. To respond to your post - the heaviest thing I have to lift in my setup is a 5 gallon keg... you can take a look at it in the links in my sig.

Welcome to HBT - I need to visit Texas sometime ... get away from the snow up here in Feb ..

Probably wouldn't want to visit my part of the state, then ... at least not in February. We've had 8 inches of snow and single digit temps around that time of year. But, we have great weather a lot of the rest of the year so come on down!

I've been thinking about ways to make lifting easier since I'm told I'm getting older.

I use dolly's to move my supplies (4-5 55# boxes of DME on a dolly that holds 300#) and carboys (in milk crates on a WallyWorld dolly $5.97, holds 120#).

Lately I've been thinking about rigging a pulley system up in my basement brewing kitchen to lift primary buckets from the floor.

No, I'm not that old or weak yet, just planning...:D

Processing ... processing ... system overload ... holy wah, ma!

Someone get me a towel to clean up the drool.

I'd certainly be interested in knowing the budget on the beast.

I was living in Austin in '90. Used to visit Austin Homebrew Supply back when it was practically just a shack on 53rd (and a 1/2!) If I recall, '90 was about the time they opened up for business ... I seem to recall that the owner's (at the time) name was Dave.

Anyway, thanks for the homebrew porn! I have a feeling I'll be looking at that a lot.
