G'day all,

Subject says all: is there any wellknown way to "de-gas" a sample before getting sg readings?

All I tried so far is just let the sample to sit in jar for 10-15 minutes, but that did not help much.

Thanks in advance!

I've been wondering if the dissolved CO2 makes a difference. It'll be interesting to hear some feedback here.

I always spin the hydrometer to ensure no bubbles are sticking to it.

I have poured beer into a glass (or metal bowl), and then put that glass in a larger bowl of hot water to warm it up. Stirring every 5 minutes for about half an hour is usually sufficient to knock out most of the carbonation. Then put the glass in a bowl of ice water to cool it back down to 60F. Works very well.

Edit: But this is when I'm starting with fully carbonated beer. If it's just has a little carbonation from fermentation then I simply spin it - seems to work well enough.
