How to check specific gravity?

I have no problem with using my turkey baster with a carboy, even the shorter ones from the grocery store work with my 6 gallon better bottles. I've never had an issue.

Oh, I meant using a coffee mug to take a sample, and not being able to use on a carboy. Turkey baster works perfectly.

I spray a glass measuring cup with my sanitizer solution and take about 6 ounces out. Pour into hydrometer tube, take SG, drink . Of course I only use buckets.
