Okay, just went AG. While I have been going to the LHBS for a while, I am starting to build quite a stock of grain. 2 row, caramel 20, 80, special B, honey malt and a few other types....in all my inventory is around 300 lbs.

Just wondering if other people have their own "mini LHBS" and what amounts they may have?

Currently:
62Lb 2 row
5Lb Victory
5Lb Carmel 90L
5Lb Carmel 60L
4Lb Carmel 40L
3Lb Organic Chocolate
5Lb English Black
5lb English Brown
6Lb Flaked Oats
5lb Cara Foam
------------------------
100Lbs

1lb ea: Cascade, Willamette, Kent Golding
8oz Liberty

And 4 types of yeast

pb

Since I am only a few batches in since I went AG, I pretty much buy a new 50 lb sack of 2-row every time I get below 25#, and buy other grains by the pound as I need them. Once I figure out my go to brews better I may try to keep the makings on hand as well and start buying that in bulk as well.

Currently have Canadian 2-row, Great Western NW Pale, Superior Pilsen, Rye, Munich, Vienna, crystal 15, English crystal II, maybe others too...I have like a dozen 5-gallon buckets full of grain.

Also have about 7-8 lbs of hops in the freezer, maybe 10 different varieties.

I need to brew more and get rid of stuff.

I've got 3 stout type recipes that I'm toying with, and a light. Some I've got all the grains to toy with them. Plus I can do some other recipes too if I want.

Gotta be flexible!!!

My hops, "Library", sucks so far,... but I'm working on it.

My yeast library does too, and I'm working on that too.

Same boat here.

167 lbs of grain (GW Pale Ale, CMC Pils, Munich, Vienna, Caramalt, C60, C120, Victory, Biscuit, Aromatic, Melanoidin, Amber, Pale Chocolate, Roasted, Flaked)
9 lbs of hops (Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Chinook, Saaz)
3 different strains of top-cropped yeast (3522, 1968, Conan)
0 time to brew :(

Usually about ~200lbs. of base and ~100lbs. of other stuff is my starting point after an order. I buy grain twice a year in bulk and haven't been to the LHBS for other stuff in several months.

Christ, I've been all grain brewing for 3 years, but always shop each time I need. Just haven't been able to commit to a mill and scale. What kinds of scales do you guys prefer? Digital or those produce analog scales

I won't tell you my scale is perfectly accurate, but I hit my OG more often than not, so it works for me. It's a 55lb. max cap "postal" scale I got off ebay for about $20. I'd like to get something smaller for the more precise weights, but it hasn't proven to be a big need yet.

a 1050's lambic recipe

but enough to fill this

I've got about 200# of grain, mostly pale ale malt, Vienna and Munich along with my commonly used specialties.

Roughly 11# of hops in 9 varieties.

I also keep 5 strains of yeast. I haven't bought yeast in quite some time. I never know when an opportunity to brew will present itself so I have to be ready!

52 lbs of 2-row
18 lbs of specialty
26 oz of hops
8 packets of US05

Is it sad that I have a spreadsheet (at work) that tracks how much I have left?

I have found that 150 lbs of base malts + about 25 lbs of specialty malts easily gets me through 1 year of brewing.

Most of my recipes only use 7-10 lbs of grain per 5.5-gallon batch.

I usually restock when I break into my last 25 lb food grade container of 2-row.

I just started a spread sheet to figure out what grains I use the most over 6 month to a year. Next time a big grain buy comes around, probably 6 months, I'll be ready. Right now I only buy 1 bag of base malt as I need it, and get specialty grains right before brew day.

I have roughly 60lbs of 2 row and a few pounds of specialty grains. I keep 2 row stocked as this is what I use the most of and for the most part buy specialty grains as needed at the LHBS.

Started at the beginning of this year:
150# Pilsen- down to 48lbs
150# 2 row -down to 25.5lbs
100# 6 row - down to12.5lbs
100# Pale Ale - Gone
Hoping some family will be coming down from Wisconsin soon running low;)

ROFLMAO!!!!Guys, I am soooo glad to see others are doing this too!:tank: I've only been doing this hobby for 4 months, and I'm totally hooked. 300 lbs grain, 6 lbs hops, my own mill, freezing yeast...and I want more!:rockin:

I went up on my inventory since I discovered that even I could do all Grain.

I also discovered that the food safe five gallon buckets with lids you can get at lowes holds 25 pounds of grain each which lead to me stocking..

50 pounds pale malt
25 pounds 2 row malt
20 pounds Rye malt
25 pounds Floor Malted Maris Otter

Then I have up to five pounds of specialty grains consisting of each
40L Briess Caramal
50L Special Roast
80L Caramal
I have english brown, roasted barley, flaked oats, flaked barley, english chocolate, and a couple of others off the top of my head.

All sit in my laundry room either shelved for the small quantities or stocked in the five gallon pails for the base malts.

While I could go to my LHBS to get my exact grain bill I Want I like having the stuff on hand, I have a mill so I can do things when I want. Sometimes things just end up on the back burner and at least this way when I have unexpected time I can brew up a batch with out running anywhere.

~300lbs of grain and 18lbs of hops. The wife wasn't entirely happy with that much freezer space being taken up by hops, but at least she doesn't mind when I brew now since it means she gets some space back.

I keep a lot (bags) of pilsner and 2-row and wheat. I also keep 5-10# of a lot of specialty malts. It really is like a mini-LHBS... I never thought of it like that.

Wow. And that caused the exact same response as I had upon walking in my LHBS and finding that it has doubled in size since I was last there 3 weeks ago. Amazement. I am jealous. I have much want.

0 lbs of grain
~8 oz of willamette
~4 oz of northern brewer
0.5 oz of magnum
no yeast

I just buy what I need when I need it, going to stop by the lhbs and pick up 13 lbs of grain and some yeast tonight to brew Sunday.
