Just out of curiosity, i use mine mostly in the morning to make sure i indeed did sober up over the night.

if i ever went to a bar, i'd probably get about 0.2%BAC and figuring .015 an hour i'd have to wait an awful long time to be ready to drive! something like 13 hours or so...so i'd hope the bar was in walking distance!

curiosity, how does it cost to get a ride home from Uber/Lyft?

The nearest brewery to me is 2.8 miles, according to Google. It's about $7 each way. I know that Uber raises rates in some areas late at night, but I've never used them at those times. Even if it's more, still much cheaper than a DUI.

Edit: If you're curious how much a ride would cost to/from your intended destination, both Uber and Lyft have an online calculator. Where I live it's about 1/3 - 1/2 the cost of a taxi.

Thanks! i'll look into it...For some reason that sounds cheap to me. i would have thought 20-50 for a ride....

I only drink at home if I am out it is in moderation 1 drink an hour'ish and If I feel it the next morning I call that a sick day

Depends on the distance. Short-haul rides of a few miles should be very cheap with Uber and Lyft. OTOH, taxis charge a flag drop, typically several dollars, just for showing up, then it's a certain rate per fraction of a mile on top of that. So even short rides in a taxi can cost quite a bit more. For longer rides the savings is very striking. For example, a taxi ride from my house to the airport (on the other side of the metro) is about $100, not counting the tip. Uber charges me about $38. Guess which one I'm going to call...

Looks like you can get a breathalyzer for your keychain for about $30. I’ve thought about getting one....

I work in the brewery scene and let’s say it can be hard to pass up on all the free beer. There’s certainly a few nights I wish I had this to persuade myself (or others) not to drive.

I had a keychain type one but it was recalled due to inaccuracy. Ended up getting a refund so it was free while it worked.

It was fun to see who could get it to blow the highest. Novelty wore off quickly though when everyone knew they were over 0.08 and were still going to drive anyways.

Depends how far you're going. But I've often found that Uber/Lyft is an inconsequential cost when compared to a dinner and a bar tab.

I was in Denver a few weeks ago, and my hotel was about 5.5-6 miles from downtown, and Uber/Lyft was about $11-12 each way. Given that there were 4 of us in the car, that's pretty cheap.

The taxi!

I used to have one 30-ish years ago when I was single. I would push right up to or just over the limit when I first got somewhere (dance halls mostly, with sawdust on the floors and a live country band with a fiddle or two), then I would nurse one beer for the rest of the evening and be just legal by the time I left.

I don't have one now. I mostly drink at home when I'm not going anywhere.

Taking Uber to the local home brew club meetings sounds like a good idea. I generally just skip most of the meetings; it's very hard to judge how much you are drinking when it's endless 2-3 ounce tasters of beer anywhere from 3% to 12% ABV (most are over 6.5%)

I travel fairly often and exclusively use Uber and Lyft. Much cheaper than a DUI. I go over to a buddies house from time to time and he lives about 1.5 miles away. Uber and Lyft are readily available and use them in just that short of a distance.

Never had a breathalyzer or used one. Knock on wood!

Cheaper than defending a manslaughter charge as well...

my favorite reply so far! :mug:

and apparently i'm the only person that owns a breathalyzer? lol, and one other person thinks we're all cool! (did one of your wives use your computer?)
