How many magnets for stir plate?

Do I need both magnets from the hard drive for a stir plate? I managed to salvage one but the other broke.

Just one is all you need. It can be tricky to get your magnet centered due to the shape of a hard drive magnet. A trick I learned is to put the stir bar on the magnet, then make sure the bar is spinning in the center of the fan.
