How long will a yeast starter last before it begins to autolize or "go bad??"

I recently made a starter using some white labs ale yeast and a quart of sterilized wort. Usually i give it two to three days but right after starting it i got pretty sick and have been unable to brew. Initial fermentation has definitely slowed down and the airlock is showing no real action. So I am wondering if 7 days is too long. I'm guessing the yeast will still be viable but i am slightly concerned about about the flavor effects of the autolization that may have occurred as a result of lack of fermentables.

Most people will tell you that the best starters are done a week before brew day. Put in the fridge for 24-48 hrs and pour off the liquid leaving just a bit to swirl the yeast to creat a slurry and add to your wort. Also take it out of the fridge when you start to brew toward up the yeast and so it makes the slurry easily.

Yeast autolization isn't going to happen in a week. It is more of a problem in commercial settings where fermenters are 2 stories tall. The pressure at the bottom of the water column is so high it causes the cells to rupture long before they would in a homebrew setting. Crash and decant it. Your all good
