I normally aerate with mine for 30-60 seconds.

It depends on tank pressure offrice size, amount of undissolved 02 reaching the surface. Wort temperature. Head space. Yeast pitch 02 level and sterol reserves and cell counts . I am not saying there is a right amount, just saying your way off in thinking in terms of time and gravity alone.

Wow I guess we can't brew without a lab...

I'd give a 1.069 wort 1lpm for 90-120 seconds...

yeah i shoot for 1-2 mins at a rate that moves the wort pretty well without creating excessive foaming. higher the gravity the longer the time (ie 2 mins or more) but generally speak 90 seconds is a benchmark.

Is there much difference between 8ppm and 16ppm? That would be an interesting question. And why do we only measure growth, lag time, and attenuation as an indication of success?

For what it's worth I don't use 02 at all.

I have never aerated, just naturally from transferring from the boil kettle to the fermentor and have never experienced a fermentation issue.
I also ferment 200lbs of grapes every year and the only oxygenation it gets is from punching down the cap. I probably get more aeration when transferring the beer than I do with the punch downs, but either way both ferment to completion with good results.

My beers seemed flavorless when I aerated with pure 02. Made a 1.070 beer yesterday with no aeration and am fermenting fairly cold. Not scared at all.

I adjust the flow so that bubbles just barely break the surface. I figure if it is overly bubbling, I am probably wasting oxygen. Will let it go for about a minute or so. Those disposable oxygen tanks are kind of costly.

I fully crank the o2 for the first 20 seconds then cut it to,half output for the remaining 40 seconds. Wand directly in the middle into the turn layer on the bottom. Activer fermentation within 2 hours

I aerated my Belgian ipa with this on Tuesday for the first use. Cranked it to get a nice foam but not a violent aeration then cut it down to half for 2 min. Pitched the 2l starter and it was off and running in 4 hrs then really off and running by the next morning. 48hrs later primary fermentation appears to b all don and the krausen is gone.

I just strain my beer going into fermenter from my keggle. It pours in slow and bubbles like mad, so that is plenty of oxygen. My fermenter is bubbly and smells delicious for a long time after it reaches pitching temps.
