How does my crush look?

Since I posted that I got some feeler gauges and marked up my mill dials from .030 - .045. I did a batch at .040, which is about what that picture is, and didn't have any problems with recirculation. Efficiency was nothing spectacular, but I hit my Beersmith estimate in 60 minutes, which is good, because it takes 90 minutes to get there with the LHBS crush. So, I am on the right path.

I am still interested in conditioning, but for now I am going to try and do without it. Brew days are long enough as it is.

I could go a lot finer if I used something like that, or lined my basket with a BIAB-bag. But I am trying to balance efficiency, conversion speed, and ability to recirculate--which is useful for changing temperature steps. Right now I appear to have plenty of speed available, so I can probably go a little finer before I start to suffer there.

.5 micron filter?

Your wort will barely drip out of that bro if at all.

I think those kids of filters are for microbiology. Look into paint strainer bags.

LOL, like i said just a thought....(didn't notice the size) also could double layer the wire screen....

I went from 68% conversion efficiency to 100% with a 0.048 on my new cereal killer on my Mash & Boil. Why should I try smaller? I think no reason. Previously my LHBS did the crush. I think the goal should be efficiency and not gap.
