How do you see your boil?

When I boil, I get so much steam that it's damn near impossible to see the top of the wort to check my boil. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do?

Check how high its boiling with your hand


No actually, sanatize a spood, and put it in till your at the top of the pot and see how the water mark is That might work aye? Or better steam vent?

I have encountered the same situation. Shining a flashlight into the pot helps, even during the day.

I've only had this problem when brewing outdoors on colder days. I noticed this problem seems to be linked not to how vigorous the boil is but the ambient temperature and humidity. it the temp and humidity are low then the steam from the boil quickly forms small droplets in the air rather than the fine steam particles and makes it harder to see. you could use a fan to blow the steam away or a bright light source as kenche suggested.

Thanks, I do use a flashlight, though, even with that, it can stil be a PITA. This has only been a problem since I started using a keggle, and I think it probably has to do with the concave top, rather than the straight sided pot I used to use.

I use a Box fan and a chair to blow the steam away so I can see.

It must be those strategically placed vent holes in the top of your keggle. Or maybe the asymmetrical shape helps to disperse the steam.

I've found that, when working with metal, I have a lot more blood left if I take the blindfold off.
