I have a ton of hop seeds in my wort. I have an IPA in the primary. I'm about to rack it to a secondary so I can dry hop it. I know I dont want to agitate this wort. Any ideas on the calmest way to filter out these seeds during the transfer from primary to secondary fermentation?

I wouldn't worry about them in the secondary. Just rack it in. Then once you are ready to bottle/keg, cold crash your secondary, and all those seeds will fall out along with hops. You will still get a few, but thats what makes homebrew great, its unfiltered!

Simple. Don't siphon them out.

Or just let a few get siphoned and don't worry about it. If you're adding whole hops to dry hop, you're introducing a bunch of seeds anway.

And even if seeds get in the secondary or even the bottling bucket, they probably will fall to the botton and never make it to the bottle anyhoo.

Thank you all for the great ideas! I'm starting to debate even worrying about them. Initially, I cared because I worried what other people would think about having hop seeds in their beer. But this is MY beer and I think hop seeds give it character!

Thats exactly it!

We have filtered seeds out before, when we did a rasberri blonde. Used an old coffee filter. But honestly, its a homebrew......if you don't care, then don't let other people make the decision for you. They won't kill you, or throw off the flavor.......

Welcome to the forums!

My problem with seeds is that they clog up the bottle filler. So now I put a flip top gasket on the racking cane and push it pretty close up against the cane tip thing.

Maybe it adds some turbulence that's not desirable???
