While setting up to start a brew I removed my packet of dry yeast from the fridge. While getting myself organized I placed the packet of yeast on the toaster oven. Then before starting the brew I decided to make a sandwich. I wanted toasted Italian bread so I turned on the toaster oven and toasted my bread. Then I realized the yeast was on the toaster oven and it got pretty warm. Did I mess up the yeast?Should I abort!?
 
How warm is pretty warm? 90-100 deg should be ok. If you are real worried just use your spare pack of dry yeast. You do have a spare pack don't you?
 
I'm with Woodstone, I'm betting they're ok.

Hell, I'd use em, and it really seems like you dont have any other choice, lol.
 
To check dry yeast you need to "proof" it. The yeast was dormant so unless you actually burned the yeast inside the packet I wouldn't worry. To proof, pour the packet into some warm water. I think the experts say 105-110 but just make sure it feels kinda hot but it doesn't burn your finger. After about 20 mins or so in the water, you should see some sort of action going on. Wait longer and it will look just like the yeast cake on the bottom of your fermentor. If you see it working you have "proof" the yeast is still good.
 
Go ahead and proof, maybe throw them a teaspoon of sugar or some of your extract to make up for the near torching death.:)

A good reminder to always keep a spare pack a of a neutral yeast lying around for these types of situations. I usually keep a pack of Safale 04 or 05 in the fridge for misplaced yeast, stuck ferms, etc.
 
Does not matter much...I recall you should let it steep in relatively warm water for 20 minutes or so but not sure it matters...I usually use a whack pack and some have sprinkled dry right onto the wort in the primary...I'd hydrate with about an hour to go...cover with foil and I suspect you could leave for even longer then that...I say this providing you will chill the wort and not have to let the yeast sit for more than that...you'll be fine...I bet you see a bit of yeast action after a few minutes in the hydration...keep us posted...the PATs lost, not much else going on!!!!
