Anybody else's SWMBO make them make hot chocolate? My wife is a certified addict which is perhaps pardonable given her Mexican heritage. 3-4oz of bittersweet and/or semisweet chocolate melted and combined with 2c of milk and topped with freshly whipped cream and I'm popular again! It's a lot like those 'chanticos' that Charbucks serves...so rich I can only handle a few sips (or I'm full on beer, not sure which), but SWMBO tucks 'em away like no tomorrow.

Mine too. Though, she gets this organic stuff and likes it made with Soy Milk, so I need to make it that way. Earns double "get out of jail" points, though.

I usually grab a block of the good chocolate when I'm at the fancy-pants grocery store in Cary (Containment Area for Relocated Yankees :p :D ) buying good beer or cheese, but it's gotta be real milk. I was a 1% milk drinker before marriage, and had to bargain her down from whole milk to 2%. No kidding, sometimes she fixes a bowl of vanilla ice cream just to let it melt and drink it.

I do the milk only route for mine. I used to be a high test milk drinker, but I have gotten myself down to 1%. Whole milk is MUCH better for hot chocolate, though, but I "suffer" through the 1%

That's what the whipped cream is for...ups the octane as it melts in. Also sweetens the bittersweet/semisweet chocolate.

That wouldn't work at my house. We whip our own cream, and we rarely sweeten it. It's used more for texture for us.

have you ever tried putting in a little chocolate liquer like godiva's, or some grand marnier, or even a little real vanilla extract...its all good...

Sounds like she's the target market for the Extra Rich milks in the California market. I had friends from India that were just crasy about it, 6% butterfat.

I like cocoa myself. I'll use a mix and add the same amount of cocoa powder as mix. That's about 5 times the cocoa. The mexican style hot chocolate is a different beast, never liked having to drag the sledge hammer into the kitchen to break the bars up. And corn meal in cocoa? Just plain weird.

Nope, but I make it for myself. ;)

It can't be too sweet, though. Too sugary-tasting and it's not good.

I just gotta ask, what does SWMBO stand for? Most of these acronyms I can figure out but this one has me stumped.

I must be getting old. I'm happy when my wife brews me up some hot, strong, black coffee.

I've never even heard of such exotic recipes for hot chocolate......

 chopped up chocolate melted into some milk ain't exotic in my book! :D Admittedly, it's more complex than powder in hot water, but that's not even the same beverage.

And I make the coffee in Chez BeeGee....the wife's idea is instant coffee.
