So I was putting my keg into the keggerator the other day and I noticed that my tap was a little dirty. Thinking that I hadn't hooked my keg up, I took apart the tap to clean it. At this point beer started spraying at high velocity into my face. I'm pretty sure that I lost at least a gallon or two to the floor of my garage. Fast forward to tonight, I have a bunch if people over and I should have tons of beer left, but unfortunately I run out after like 5 beers. To end my tail of woe on a good note, I had some bottles that I was letting age a little bit and forgot about that I was able to enjoy. The end

Ah yes, the ole geyser of beer in the face. Sorry to hear you've joined the club....but at least you learned a lesson.

Stuff like that happens to us all at one time or another.
Yesterday while bottling my entries for the NHC the supply tube slipped off the top of my beer gun and I lost about a cup of beer before I could disconnect the QD from the keg.
Not a great loss like your, but a preventable loss non-the-less.

I sympathize.

I was recarbing my keg since after a while at low/no PSI (I shut my gass off when not in use) it had lost some carbonation and I want to to increase the carb level, I had my keg turned up to 30 PSI. the next day (forgetting I had it cranked up) dispensed a beer..... well dispensed HIGH SPEED FOAM, into the cup up out of the cup all over my chest, the floor my face, did i mention the ceiling?... I couldnt believe how much came out so quickly I swear the tap was only open a split second, but somehow it got EVERYWHERE. LOL

That's interesting- I'm currently dispensing an APA at 20psi, 10ft. hose, etc. and it just pours fast. It's only that high because I'm trying to trick myself into a thick head, and the beer's kinda young (couple weeks).

All beer losses suck, but luckily most are preventable. Haven't gotten the beer shower yet, but my day is coming. I always double-check the QD's are off the keg, then pull a test glass to relieve excess pressure, then finally crack the fittings of the tap and check for sprays before they're full-fledged. Kyle

I think the amount of splatter was because of the extremely short dispense hose (less than 18 inches) and the shape of the glass its one of the new allagash white glasses sort of shaped like a fluted wineglass, I had it pointed right down the side of the glass so it did the skate board ramp effect and came straight back up, and the fact that the keg is nearly empty.
