Hello Brewing Friends,

I recently tried out the CO2 Hop Shot Extract that is supposed to make a real clean bettering charge at the 60 or 90 minute addition. Looks like it works really well and the beer (though in primary) is tasting great.

PROBLEM: It leaves a horrible sticky residue on my SS boil kettle. Especially at the top where the break happens. I've tried hot water with a scrubby pad, and high proof alcohol and it doesn't want to budge or clean off.

QUESTION: Anyone here familiar with this? Any Solutions besides crazy amounts of time and elbow grease and shredding up my pot by using abrasive pads?

Any help or comments appreciated.

i assume you've tried, but i'll suggest...PBW or Bar Keepers Friend? they tend to work miracles on any sludge or crud i've come across and requires little elbow grease...just a solid 24-48 soak and i usually find any residue sitting in the bottom.

I've seen that residue too. Hot PBW seems to take care if it just fine. I always circulate hot PBW through my kettle and pumps at end of brew day and seems to take that stuff off just fine.

Ok so I have yet to actually try PBW which you'd think is a no brainer... but I guess I bypassed it thinking I needed something harsher. Thanks and I'll give it a shot.

PBW is pretty solid stuff. it's much more expensive than bar keepers friend, which i have found recently to be just as effective!
