I have two hop plants in my garden.

I'm going to use some in my next brew to see what happens but I have a few quiestions.

Is there any such thing as a "Bad hop" for brewing?
Is there any way to identify what type it is?
How much do I put in?
Is it best to use them Fresh or dried?
I'm using extract so when should I put them in?
Can I boil them and freeze the liquor?

I've got the wife to strip them for me. :D

1. Not AFAIK
2. What Bill said
3. 10% more than pellets
4. Use them dried. Let them dry natuarally over a few days. Someone else may have more specific guidance on this.
5. Put them in just as you would any other hop addition, i.e. whenever the recipe says.
6. Huh? You mean like making a hop extract? I doubt if it's that simple. To keep them fresh, store them, vacuum sealed if possible, in the freezer. After they're dried, of course.

Wow, that's cool! Please keep us posted with your results. I'm totally jealous, I'd love to grow my own hops. Where did you get the plants?

I picked them up from the local herb specialist for £3 a plant. I've put 2 in.
They spread like wild fire and grow a good 20ft form ground each year. I have to dig them up each year and split them. (Free plants) :D
I wish the beer was that easy. :cross:

Bet that smells good... :cross:

It does, they smell even better after 6 hours in an oven at 100c with the door open. They've just come out now.

I still have these to do yet.
