Hops in final beer, bad, ok, or what?

Well I dry hopped my brew (first time dry hopping) just threw the pellets in and left it for a week. Didn't have anything to put on the siphon to strain it or anything, so I wound up with a little bit of hops floating in the bottles. Other then floating hops is this a bad thing for the beer or if someone drinks it? I just bottled it, so not sure if it will settle out and I'm just being too concerned right now.

The hops will probably kill your friends....send it to me and ill make sure its disposed of safely...

But really, dry hopping is done best with whole leaf hops in the future...

With the recent hops shortage, I've used whichever hops I can get for dryhopping- pellet or leaf hops. I usually don't have a problem with pellet hops- they seem to form a sludge and drop to the bottom. If you have a few in the bottles, it should settle in the bottom with the spent yeast so you shouldn't have a problem.

Freshops.com is where i get my whole leaf hops from....Great quality and always a nice variety. Price is never too bad either. Only problem is that you have to order around 10oz or more....

I've made a wonderful centennial IPA and dryhopped with the centennial whole leafs...i dunno if I want to go back to pellets ever...although sometimes you don't have a choice like Yooper said.

Hops don't taste as good in person as the memory of them does. I don't know if that makes any sense, but basically, eat a hop and you'll know what I'm talking about. I'm a hophead and like hop bombs; really really hoppy beers. But I don't like eating them.

That said, your beers will be fine.

I have dry hopped w/ pellets in the keg and the first few glasses had hop floaties in them. It tasted great and I'm still alive. I actualy liked the flavor more the first week than after it mellowed.

Definitely! It floats around on top for a while, first, totally immersing in the beer as it breaks up and sinks. I've had more issues with dryhopping with leaf hops. My homegrown hops seem to "puff up" in the beer, and float more. In my opinion, I get very good flavor and aroma from either type of hops in dryhopping.

Also, cold crashing helps the hops sink to the bottom of the carboy. I brewed a Surly furious clone with three ounces of pellet hops, none which sunk to the bottom. Put in the refrigerator and all were at the bottom.

I am a big fan of dryhopping the whole hops in a muslin bag with some weights (marbles) so the hops kinda float in the middle of the carboy... I agree they do puff up, but if you keep them contained it usually isnt a big deal...

I usually wind up dry hopping with pellet hops since it's easier to get more varieties in that form. I've found that most hops will settle to the bottom....especially if you cold crash.

Having some hop floaties in your final beer isn't detrimental. In fact, I've noticed some of the hoppy beers from Great Divide still have some hop floaties in the bottle

Now question for next time I dryhop. Should I use a muslin bag, and if so how do I steralize it, if its all wet isn't it hard to get the hops in it? I also saw something called a hop ball, looked steel. Is that for dryhopping?

Starsan for a few minutes, throw the hops in with some marbles (also starsan the marbles)...and go to town...its not that tricky...
