Hello there,
I have been lurking around a little but only just signed up to ask a question.
I am doing a porter kit from Muntons but want to hop it up a little, its a joint effort, may mate prefers them a bit darker, I prefer them more bitter hoppy so we are hoping for something in between with this :)

I have seen a lot about dry hopping, which I will do I think, but this wont add bitter flavours I believe. I have also seen a lot of advice about not boiling kits which already have been hopped, which this has.

So my question is, if I need to boil a lot of water anyway for the kit, can I add the hops to that to extract the bitter flavours, then dry hop for aromatics if I plan to do a secondary phase.

Thanks for any help, I have already learnt a fair bit from all my lurking :)

You can boil water to make a hop tea. 60 minutes for bittering, 10-20 minutes boil for flavor. Dry hopping a week is for aroma.
