They work great for dryhopping in the keg, but they really are too small for more than about 1/2 ounce or so of leaf hops and maybe 3/4 ounce for pellets.

Mine is just like that- but it was sold as a "tea ball" for loose tea.

you guys need one of these:

item number from ebay: 370327880649

they are 5" x 3.5" across and even though a little expensive, they do work much better than the small ones.

thanks for the link :mug:

cool thanks for the ebay link!

I'd rather buy that once and reuse than strainer bags that turn green. That will probably last a lot longer than the bags and won't turn green!

Ya these are just ok. I have 3 and the "tea ball".

The big ones the mesh is coarse and doesn't hold pellet hops very well at all. The hops gets wet, breaks apart then floats out...not all the hops gets out but enough to ask yourself WTF did I buy this??? I found my "Big ones" at The World Market for under $7.00 ea. I use these for specialty grains and they kick butt for small "stepping grain" quantities or "mini-mashes". (I made a 2.5 gallon batch of caramel apple mead and needed to steep some grains in 3 quarts of apple juice, these worked FANTASTICALLY for this.)

The smaller one has a finer mesh and does a nicer job of keeping the hops inside it. The issue is it's size. If you put 1 full oz into one of these the hops expands and the "core" of the hops will be dry and mostly unused, Then you are all bummed that the hops did not get utilized well and then you realize the IBU's will be ??? under what you wanted...

Out of almost all my brew days I have used these things all of 3 times. A nylon straining bag is cheaper and works way better in almost all applications. They have their specialty uses but will prob collect more dust than get used unless you do smaller brew sizes and I mean under 3 gallons...or really like tea...

This has been my experiences with these items, yours may be different...
