Hi all!

I'm going to buy some paint strainer bag to hold my hop, can I use them directly in the pot or is absolutely necessary to make also the support? If the nylon bag float on the wort (touching only the inner side of the kettle and not the bottom) is safe or it meld?

Thanks for the help!

The advantage of the support is that you can add hops at any time without having to fish the bag out of the kettle and open it up. So long as you keep it from direct contact with the bottom it should not melt or scorch.

I don't really think it will melt but it is nice to be able to add the hops to the bag as you go along. Some people add 3 bags as they go along corresponding with their 3 hop additions.

Previously I used the muslin bag but I read in this forum about possibile mold infection (are 100° not enough to kill everything? ;) ). Do you think that this is right (even if it has the elastic top)?

Thanks for the help

Aragorn
