Hop Combinations

Hi there,

I'd like to try out some of the new(er) hop variety's. Was thinking these hop combinations for flavour/aroma (late additions/dry hopping).

Lemondrop/Eldorado IPA
EQUINOX/Palisade Saison
Summer/Ahtanum APA
Rakau/Lemondrop APA

Anyone tried these combinations in own brews or i commercial beers? Did they work?

palisade to me is a bit meh, Equinox is interesting, lots of depth of flavor, but I like other newer hops better

Summer is one of my favorites. It gives a gentle apricot-liek fruitiness that goes very well with many other fruity hops. And its not a high alpha% so you can use it in a wheat or something. Ahtanum is kinda like palisade to me

Rakau is pretty intensely grassy and pineapply, bit of tropical. It'd probably do well with lemon drop.

Personally, out of all of those, I'd do a Summer/Eldorado IPA or APA that would taste like straight up candy. I would use El dorado for flavor or bittering too though since its got a huge alpha%

I've really been going through a lot of Belma and Huell Melon. They both have a very soft non-typical hop character. Belma is more strawberryish and Huell Melon is well, melony. I really like the flavor they make when combined. Unlike anything I've tasted in a hop-forward beer, but very non aggressive. Ive made 3 IPAs so far with 4oz of each of them plus 4oz another hop. Just looking for the 3rd magical ingredient to match up perfectly...

I also really like Hallertau Blanc. Dont be fooled by the name, its nowhere near noble hallertau in character. Its a new German hop, kind of tastes like a more floral and clean nelson sauvin. Definitely prominent gooseberry flavor.

I've already brewed with those hops a few times before. Really like Hallertau Blanc and in combination with Saphir, I recently won gold in the Pale Lager (Pilsener) category at the Danish homebrewers Championship.

Thanks to your feedback I ended up buying hops for the following combinations:

Lemondrop/Eldorado IPA
EQUINOX/Palisade Saison
Summer/Eldorado APA
Rakau/Lemondrop APA

Also brewing an Amarillo/Mosaic Saison this weekend
