Does anyone else feel like they're addicted to hops?

My last three brews were an IPA, a pale ale and an imperial IPA. I try and appreciate plenty of beer styles but when I buy a six pack it is ALWAYS an IPA. And it seems like the only brews I want to make are IPA's.

So I was wondering - does anyone else feel this way? Maybe you feel this way about stouts and don't care to make hoppy beers?

Just curious.

yeah i know the feeling. i was in an IPA phase for a while once, brewed them, bought them, eventually you'll get out of it...kinda like when I was 15 and all I listened to was Zeppelin, then I woke up one day and was like, I think I'll listen to something else for a change.

I cycle back and forth, usually in the warmer parts of the year i'm all about hops, then as it starts to cool off in the fall, I lean more toward hearty, less hoppy brews.

I seem to go through phases. Sometimes it's "let's see how much hops we can get into this beer", and sometimes its malt bombs or huge, high ABV beers. Lately I've actually been trying to make well balanced session beers.

I'm addicted to variety - if you can't tell by my signature. Hops are great but I love malt and the various flavors of nearly every style of beer.

I brew a wide array. But I usually do hop everything a little higher than whatever style I'm brewing, both in bittering at late additions. But I hop the crap out of my IPAs.

When I go to the bar, it's usually an IPA (unless something new has hit the taps), but at home it's whatever I happened to feel like brewing 1-2 months ago. I'm currently drinking a blackberry hefe. Hell, I don't even usually like fruit beers, but the mass of blackberries overrunning the edges of my grandparent's farm called to me on a recent visit, and it's tasting great.

Next kegs to get tapped are American Amber, a fresh hopped monstrosity, a Maibock, and an English Mild.

They are definately addicting and have a psychoactive effect. I always crave another IPA after I've had a big hop monster the day before. Curiosity about all styles end up tempering things for me and I end up exploring different takes on any given style. Curiosity always wins. But I proabably drink 50% IPA and 50% Porters, Stouts, Belgians, and other styles with extra hops :D

in bottle i have a 4% bitter, Roasted Rye PA, last years Imperial Breakfast stout, and some experimental Witbier beer (yuck!)

Part of it may be due to the fact that I'm less than 10 brews into my homebrewing career, I'm sure eventually I will start to branch out more because of boredom...

That's what happened to me. First got started it was IPA centric. Then I hit the basics - stout, APA, IPA. Now I'm exploring styles I've never brewed, and of late - session beers! It's a journey....enjoy the ride!

Sounds like me. Pale ales, then my APA/IPA dual recipe, the whiskely ale,now I'm going out today for the rest of what I need for a hoppy Burton Ale. While at the same time,my wife's Summer Ale-ish clone. English style hops on both.

I love hops and hoppy beers. Am I addicted, no. Although I am addicted to beer and without hops, what would beer be?

That being said, I just ordered 5# of hops. 2# of those were simcoe. So yes, maybe I am. At least to certain ones.

Interesting that today at my LHBS,I found "raw hops?" from Hop Union. So I now have 9oz of hops bagged up in the freezer, only one of which are pellets. I'm starting to love whole leaf hops over the pellets, since I do mainly hop bursting anyway. The flavors seem to be a bit more natural & less bitter. 6oz of them will see duty in a Burton ale I'll be brewing up tomorrow.
I just wonder if there's a difference in "raw hops (Hop Union)" & "whole leaf hops (LD Carlson)"?
