I just tried both of these the other night. Not bad beers. To me they both have a very distinct tangerine/orange taste. The Shlafly flatout tastes like orange soda - in a relatively good way.
Has anybody else tried either, and if so, what do you think?
Reason I wonder, I googled both and found reviews, not one of which mentioned this. I saw 'grassy' in a couple of them. Wtf? I've tasted grass - it don't taste like orange soda.
The hops are:Honker's Ale - Styrian Goldings
Shlafly ESB - Willamette(dry hop) and Pilgrim. Schlafly calls it 'lemony' - I say orange soda.

Interesting. I enjoy Honker's Ale but can't say I've noticed an orange flavor to it. Next time I have one, I'll have that in mind.

Don't get me wrong - I like both of them. Two of the better bitters I've tried.
