Homemade Vanilla Extract Ratio?

Hi all,

I have been making vanilla extract over the course of 6 months. Roughly there is 4-5 oz in a mason jar. I made it with Devil Springs 160 proof vodka.

What ratio should I use for pitching it into a secondary for flavoring a Robust Porter?

To be honest, your really the only one who can answer that. Its all personal taste. The best way to do it is to take a certain amount of the wort and add predetermined amounts of the extract until you reach your desired flavor and scale up from there. Remember you can always add more later and you can't take away if its too powerful.

If I add it slowly to the secondary in 2 oz increments over the course of a couple days and take taste samples, that sounds like a decent method based on your post!
