I'm in the military and just received orders to Little Rock, AR. I'm currently in San Diego, CA and I'm just concerned about the logistical aspect of brewing living in Little Rock. Anybody know of any homebrew shops out there?? Thanks!

Believe it or not, online shops will even ship supplies to Little Rock. Until someone with local knowledge weighs in on this that is where I would be looking.

Yeah I always wondered how well yeast would travel, do you have any experience with having yeast shipped?

Where I live the temperature from winter to summer is extremely variable so I have to rely on dry yeasts. Dry yeast will easily survive the extreme cold (-50F in winter is possible) and the heat (+100F in summer happens). That does limit the choices but I still like the beers I make. That will get you a start until you have time to fine a local source of liquid yeasts if you choose them.

Fermentables, in North Little Rock. Check them out at Fermentables.com. Yep, we even have the interweb in Arkansaw these days!

The biggest difference you'll have to get used to will be the weather. From near zero in winter to over 100°F in summer. Little Rock doesn't catch as many tornadoes as we do here on the western border, but they still happen.

You'll find that we are somewhat slow, relaxed, and behind the times here. Just remember that it's not because we're ignorant or stupid, but 'cause we like it that way. Hope you enjoy living here. Welcome!

You've got my kinda humor brother!! Haha thank you very much for all the information, it's definitely going to be a little bit of a culture shock but the family and I are excited for the experience! Cheers!

One more question, it looks like I'll be living in a "dry county", are there any laws against homebrewing?

I, too, live in a dry county. State law trumps county ordinance, so home brewing is legal in dry counties. There is supposedly a 5% abv cap, but I've never heard of it being enforced. As in most of the south, there are a lot of hyper-pious types who like to mind your business for you, but if you keep your head down you'll be fine.

Additional: I heard on NPR this morning that Arkansas is the worst state for binge-drinking, in spite of half our counties being dry. Not real sure what this says about us.

Awesome, makes me feel kind of like a bootlegger during prohibition! Haha Thanks for the reply!
