Home hop grow - root question!

Hey Brewers,

My dad and I are planning to throw about 8 or so hops on his property this summer (next two weeks) and we were deciding on a spot. We think we've found one, but it is about 20 feet away from the septic bed. My question is this: I know septic beds can be damaged by planting trees too close to them, but is this going to be a problem for a hop garden with 8 plants? Thanks folks!

Left unimpeded a runner may make it 20 feet, but once it sprouts you'll have ample time to yank it back to the crown before it gets established. So I wouldn't be concerned about impacting a leach field...

Or just put some gutter flashing as a shield around the direction of the leaching field. 12" deep should do it.
