So of course I forgot to take a measurement before adding bottling sugar. My FG with the 5oz sugar mixed in was 1.020. It was an extract kit for a Brown ale that said 1.010-1.014 for FG. My question is am I looking at beers that are going to explode due to a high FG? I think my fermentation must have stalled and wasn't completely done after the two weeks.

5oz of sugar would add about 3 points of gravity, so your gravity before the sugar was probably around 1.017. That's only 3 points off your target. Extract brews tend to end up on the high side compared to all grain. Did you ferment for at least 2 weeks? You probably will be ok but proceed with caution. Put the bottles in boxes. Carefully (oven gloves and protective eyeware might not be a bad idea) test a bottle for carbonation after 1 week. If it's way over-carbonated you'll need to be very careful. If it's not overcarbonated, check another bottle after 2 weeks and then after 3. I always use some plastic bottles in addition to glass which are great for getting an idea of carbonation progress without having to open a bottle.

Yup it was a full 2 week ferment. I have them in a big plastic tub so we shall see. It was 70 when i brewed and then it snowed a week later so i think it might have stalled the fermentation a bit.

Thanks for the response and the advice! fingers crossed
